HELLO JANUARY SLEEVERS!

Hi guys! Wanted to check in and see how folks are doing with eating habits/food selection and hunger.

I can eat just about anything now. I rarely eat carbs. I have been sticking to the nutrition plan except for during dinner with my family where I eat a small amount of whatever they are eating. Sometimes we have enchiladas sometimes we have burgers without the bun, taco (minus shell) stuff like that. How are you guys doing as it relates to eating with family?

Also, sadly during the last few days my hunger has returned with a vengeance. I still eat about 4 to 5 ounces per meal. I have added 2 healthy Snacks due to hunger.

Has anybody else experienced the hunger returning?

I am struggling to stop eating right when I "don't feel hungry" instead of when I feel gross full. Some habits die hard. But I'm working on it!

I'm down about 55 lbs. [/

Hey!

Congratulations on your weight loss! I was a low bmi sleever and got my surgery on Jan 18th. After 4 weeks after surgery my hunger came back and after 5 weeks I stopped losing weight for a month! I had to cut back the carbs, all sugars and artificial sweeteners in order to lose weight. My drinks are only coffee, tea and Water. I increased my fat intake to reduce cravings (this works amazing!) and I've been loosing around 1 pound per week after that. I'm really happy with the results but in my case I'm extremely sensitive to carbs and I had to cut them totally from my diet in order to keep my sanity. Maybe it's your problem as well. Let me know which approach you take and I wish you good luck!

I agree the high fat helps hunger. I'm still figuring this out but I think carbs and sugar are evil (jk sort of ) so I rarely eat them. I need to figure out which carbs will help my energy though since after a few days of no carbs I feel run down.

What an interesting journey we are on. I was sharing with my friend that this really isn't easy and that we have to stick to a healthy diet high in protien and we have to exercise like everyone else who wants to be healthy and the helpful part of this tool is that it stops me from overeating so I'm thankful for that.

I was just thinking about this thread when I got the email update.

I was sleeved January 21, so yesterday was 12 weeks out for me. I am currently down 35 pounds. I hope everybody is doing well.

I agree, this is work. The sleeve helps but we still have to eat right, exercise, and deal with all the demons that made us who we were. I have been stalling the last few weeks but we all have challenges in our journeys. The key, I believe, is to be diligent, log our food, get exercise, and stay positive. I have also been putting up videos on youtube, to sort of keep me accountable.

Hey Chavez Mommy!

About the lack of energy when you quit carbs that you mentioned in your post... It's carb withdrawals and it usually passes after three days. Afterwards (like a week) your mind will be so clear and you'll have so much energy and being able to concentrate. I suggest you not to find the carbs that you can tolerate, just eat real food that is low in carbs: meat, poultry, pork, beef, eggs, butter, heavy cream, veggies that grew up above the earth, occasionally nuts, occasionally berries, tea, Water and coffee. Thats it! no artificial sweeteners, no magical cooking, no reading labels nor tracking.

In a few days... you'll be free and the weight will come off immediately!

Congratulations in your weight loss and what an amazing journey we all are in this boat together!

About the demons: Oh! God!!! So many of them since I was a kid! Nowadays are less and less. I don't follow nor count nor measure what I eat, so the demons are away and I've been doing a low carb high fat approach and it has helped me fantastically with keeping the sugar demons away. How did I find that this was the right way for me? I was starting to get obsessed with all the types of food that I was putting in my mouth and specially foods or drinks that have artificial sweeteners where driving me crazy! So, after testing and retesting, I'm much better from the sugar cravings, even though I relapse at least once a week (this week however none), but I just follow real food rule: meat of all kinds, butter, olive oil, veggies that grows on the surface, nuts, heavy cream, cheese and berries. This approach has helped me as much as the sleeve!

Don't fight your demons, just put them to sleep!

How is everyone doing? How many calories are you eating daily in average? Most days I'm 500-600 but 1 of 10 I get to 900/1000. It's all healthy but I notice I eat more when I don't hydrate enough.

I plateaued for 2 weeks but once I added exercise at Orange Theory - which is amazing!! (Try it and Tell them I sent you!) I started losing again.

Hi everyone, I was sleeved Jan 14, 2016. My HW was 260, SW 251, CW 213 and GW 160. I feel like I've been losing alot slower than most but it has mostly been a consistent 1 to 2 lbs a week. I know they say not to compare but it's very hard lol. I know I need to exercise more but I've been struggling with low energy since the beginning. I push myself to atleast walk on the treadmill 30min 5days a week. Overall though I am glad that I had the surgery! It's definitely the tool I needed!

I started orange theory workouts and I stopped plateauing. Is your B12 level ok per your doc?

I was also very tired until the past 2 weeks. Keep at it and add that exercise. My doctor said that there is no better time to lose weight then the first year after our surgery. So we have to take advantage of this time period.

I had bloodwork done a month ago and at that time everything was normal. I'm a member at my local gym, just have to push myself to get in there! I'm steady working on it lol

Hey everyone!

I stopped losing weight after the fifth week of the sleeve and I don't get a fullness signal until it's too late and I'm full to my throat. Because of this I've chosen to follow a ketogenic diet (in some places also known as banting or lchf or low-carb-moderate-protein-high-fat) which has helped me with my crazy cravings for food and sweets. I also had to cut all artificial sweeteners and hopefully I can reduce dairy and nuts as I can see that they cause me trouble with the food addiction and anyway, I'm lactose intoleranse and have nut allergies, so I shouldn't been eating those anyway.

Because my diet is based on fats, for sure I consume over 1,000kcal. I don't weight anything. The only thing I do is the following rule:

1. Does it look like food?

2. How much it was processed? The only processed food that I eat now are cheese, heavy cream and butter. Also high cured ham like serrano or prosciutto, chorizo and bacon.

3. Drinks: tea or coffee with heavy cream and butter. Otherwise plain Water.< /p>

4. Meat: all kind.

5. Veggies covered in butter.

6. Berries (occasionally) with whip cream, obviously no sugar nor sweetness added.

7. I've been trying to fast over 12 hours and eat only 3 meals.

Goals: (Height: 159cm = 5'3'')

Highest weight: 80kg = 176 lbs 6oz = 12 stones 8.4 lbs

Surgery weight: 76kg = 167 lbs 9oz = 11 stones 13.55lbs

Current weight: 58.9kg = 130 lbs = 9 stones 3.85 lbs

Goal weight: 55kg = 121 lbs 4oz = 8 stones 9 1/4 lbs

Unfortunately Orange Theory is quit far for me as I live in Norway!

Doing well..

Averaging about a pound a week.

Sometimes less.. Sometimes more.

Eating small meals with Snacks. At times I feel I'm grazing but actually I'm not.. My old self would say that meal is really a snack cuz it's so small.

I have friends who don't know I've had surgery and when they see me log my food they ask... How are you gonna log that lil bit of fish? they just don't know why I'm eating so lil.

Maybe I'll break the news someday. Otherwise doing well.

I've been losing a ton of hair at the root. Started Biotin over a week ago. Feeling upset about my full head of hair getting skimpy and more skimpy by day.

Anyone else going through this?

Me as well! It's horrible! I've lost a LOT and it doesn't seem to stop! Looks like I'm sick!

I've been losing a ton of hair at the root. Started Biotin over a week ago. Feeling upset about my full head of hair getting skimpy and more skimpy by day. [emoji45]Anyone else going through this?

I'm having the same issue even tho I'very been on Biotin months before I had my surgery. Just started a Gummy Vitamin for hair, skin, and nails in addition to the Biotin. My surgeon's nurse said it should level out after 6 months, but other people on BP say not till after u maintain goal weight for a year. I hope not cause I may not have any left by then!LOL

I havnt had issues with hair loss. I always thought it was associated with calorie deficit. So I always tried to increase my calories towards 1000. If we are eating 500-800 cals a day.. Hair loss will occur. You can google calorie defict and hair loss and see the results. Pretty interesting.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
