Looking for people who are just starting the bariatric process

I'm 2 months or so into my 6 month process. I have numerous health problems, but have been approved so far. Before surgery is done, because of my heart, lung and kidney problems, I will need to be approved again. It will all depend on my heart and if my cardiologist thinks my heart can withstand the surgery.

Hello today was the day that I went to the doctor and thought I was going to get a date for my surgery but I did not I was kind of sad and hurt but the doctor said I have 14 more pounds but I have to do so hopefully when I go back next month I will have lost that 14 pounds can someone please help me and give me some suggestions on what I should do I know exercising is one and I'm not going to lie I've exercised a little but I don't exercise like I should I'm not going to give up I'm going to go hard and work hard at it and just hope for the best

My dietitian gave me this diet for Breakfast i have a Meal Replacement drink and also for lunch with lunch i could have a half low calorie sandwich but i just stuck with the drink and then i have a smart meal for dinner it is a tough process and i can only have 60 grams of sugar a day. i stayed away from fruit because it is really not as good as they say i learned a palm size apple is 25 grams of sugar and i am not going to lie i have not exercised much i have degenerative arthritis in my lower back it is hard for me i can not stand long nor walk much distance.. it will be hard but do not lose hope you can do this!!

If you google about low Vitamin D, when combined with other things such as pre diabetes etc... It can cause insulin resistance or a syndrome called metabolic X... Don't see too much info on here about these... They may be more of concerns for pre-op people.

I had Low Vitamin D combined with pre-diabetes, when I finally went to an endocrinologist they figured out I had mild pcos which was a factor in why dealing with loosing weight was so difficult.. I took a dose of vitamin D once a week for a number of years until my levels got high enough they took me off it... I found it felt better taking the RX vitamin D

That totally makes sense because I am pre-diabetic with a prolactinoma and never diagnosed w/PCOS but would not be surprised about that either since 2 of 3 sisters have been diagnosed with it. I just have to keep on trying to lose some weight before my next visit to PCP in June something is better than nothing since my insurance did not specify an amount.

I am beginning the process as well. I met with my doctor for the first time yesterday and received the plan to prepare for surgery.

I am still in the process, I have sleep apnea so I have to be on the cpap machine 30 days prior to surgery so I don't have a surgery date yet. This is my very last step before insurance submittal. Getting close here but I am here if you need anything...

The insurance I have is a local h.m.o, and my surgeon said that they are pretty good about approving anything that the medical team deems necessary. And I don't even have to do a diet but my surgeon wants me to do 3 months so I can lose at least 30lbs prior to surgery. I'm 368 and he wants me around 340 before surgery

Updating ... I managed to get all my appointments in before the gastroscopy so if everything is okay and the finances all line up I should be able to organise my surgery for mid July. More news later ... when I have a firm date.

I am just starting. I had my first appointment with the weight loss clinic last month. My insurance requires 6 months of supervised weight loss prior to approving surgery. I'm afraid if I lose too little the surgeon will not do the surgery and if I lose too much, the insurance will deny it because I can do it on my own. I really think 6 months is way too long. The insurance companies probably think a lot of people will give up in that time period.

I am in the beginning stages as well....I have my first follow up appointment with my nut on Monday June 6th. I completed my first out of three month insurance required diet but it was tough and I am definitely disappointed with the results. My plan was basically, two weeks on a low carb no sugar diet followed by 1 week on a full liquid diet, and then repeat the process. As soon as I came off the liquid diet and started eating real foods again I noticed I was gaining back weight, i had gone down 16, and now im only down 10. Definitely frustrating, so I am excited to talk to my nut. and get some input about that.

I am leaning towards the bypass, but my surgeon also performs the DS surgery and I am not 100% positive yet which surgery i am going to get....had anyone here considered the DS and decided on the bypass for any reason?

Good luck to everyone :)

I am just starting the whole process. So far, all I've done is check what my insurance company requires, and I got my doctor to send a referral to the surgical team. I'm hoping I have a realistic expectation of having the surgery in January. Does anybody have an opinion on this?

I'm hoping to learn everything I need to be as prepared as possible. Feeling just overwhelmed right now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
