Looking for people who are just starting the bariatric process

I just did my first weigh in at the doctor's office for my six month's diet insurance requirement. My PCP was super supportive and helpful. My dr five years ago was really opposed to it and swayed me away from doing it so this is a relief. I'm going to use myfitnesspal to track my food and exercise by walking every day. This is something I know I can be successful at because I've done it before. I do worry about weekly support since I only see my dr monthly but I think I will have a good friend go through my food journals with me every week to keep me on track.

Hiya,

I started the 3 week pre op diet today of Optifast VLCD products & salad/veg. My surgery is booked for Feb 5, providing my endoscopy goes well.

The first day has sucked!! I think it's only 800 calories. Everyone says it gets better....I bloody hope so!

I go to my information session on the 27th. Sucks it's long wait iceberg waiting since December 16 just to go to the information session. I filled out all the paper work for the surgeon hopefully soon after the 27th I can start my 6 month pre-op diet and requirement appts.

Watch a lot of YouTube videos.. That's what I did.

I just had my consult on Friday and am starting the 6 months supervised diet and questioning if I will be able to handle that without a complete breakdown! One week of high Protein low carbs and two weeks of liquid diet for 6 months. It seems nearly unreal to me to expect someone with food issues to do this but i am going to try.

I have never had any type of medical procedure beyond having a baby but at 47 and 5'6" 330 lbs it's time . I have PCOS and type 2 diabetes and I want my life back, but this whole process seems so overwhelming.

I am on month three of my supervised diet plan. I am currently working on getting more exercise in my daily routine. I am struggling with keeping my Water intake up and cutting out soda. Good luck to you as you begin your journey!

what does the 3 month plan entail? I had no plan until now....which is green salad/ veg and Protein Shakes. On day 4 now & craving chocolate.< /p>

I'm feeling lucky that I just have to follow a low calorie diet with my PCP. It seems ridiculous to expect someone who is struggling with food to be on a liquid diet for that long. I know I can stick with the plan my PCP outlined. It is nothing I haven't been successful at before. I'm just hoping not to do anything dumb. I love sweets and can still eat them and they are a constant temptation but I've been choosing to stay away even though I'm just restricted calories.

Also, stay positive, proactive, persistent, and patient throughout the process.

This is the key especially the patience part. I'll admit patience was not a virtue bestowed upon me and I'm having to teach myself to slow down on a daily basis.

Your surgical team including your nutritionist can better explain their specifics as no two centers are exactly alike. My 3 month pre-op process was a 13wk fitness program requiring me to work out at least 30 mins 3x wkly. I also had to meet with my nutritionist 4x over that course. My plan didn't require a specific diet other than to learning to cut out bad carbs and processed sugars. I also wasn't required to lose a specific amount of weight pre-op.

Wow, it's amazing how the plans differ. I've only seen a Nutritionist once (due another session next week), no exercise programme & just this 3 week pre op diet.

I agree! Expecting a person who has problems over eating to follow a liquid diet is beyond ridiculous!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
