Yuck Mouth & Foul Breath ~ Gross!

Recommended Posts

I am almost 8 weeks post op gastric sleeve. W. T. F. is going on inside my mouth? I can taste how bad my breath is. It seems like I've been eating cow dung and chasing it with dog poop. I know ketosis can create some funk but my gawd I'm offending myself. I'm taking steps back when I talk to people or turning my head like some weirdo. I am contemplating wearing a surgical mask. WHEN DOES THIS STOP!?!?!

Listerine breath strips work well. Bad breath is normal after surgery. .

do you have a coating over your tongue, inside of your mouth or back of your throat? Any pain when swallowing or eating? Sometimes thrush, a fungal infection, can cause these symptoms too. If you have the coating, definitely speak with your primary care doctor about it.

Definitely not thrush. I've had it before after a double antibiotic. No white yuck. Just stink. No teeth pain. No throat aches. Nothing. Just yuck stink. Right after I brush it stinks. I just want it to end. So embarrassing.

Try to take liquid chlorophyll. The stuff is fantastic! Two tablespoons a day in Water or your shakes will cure your problem. Look it up. Chlorofresh by Natures Way has been my favorite. The capsules have not worked for me just the liquid I even put it in my dogs water, no bad breath or smelly gas from them. Ha ha!

I remember this time, it does go away! My husband used to always give me a heads up, that plus my Protein Shakes was not good!

Thanks. My husband, my kids, they are all brutally honest. Especially the littlest one. I'd rather have onion breath than this. I want to go to the dentist but am too ashamed to go while this is going on.

Ketone breath is not pretty????but don't despair. It means you're burning fat and losing weight! I carry mini altoids around the office and have a toothbrush an mouthwash in my file cabinet.

I know eating Protein enhances the "flavor" GAG. I don't mind eating protein but this combined with the protein mouth is sickening. And it doesn't matter if it's eggs, or meats, or chocolate protein, it's awful. I feel so icky.

I know, I was just kidding with you.

My breath wasn't that bad, but I did notice it being a little "ripe" during the initial post-op phase.

I don't know if the choices of Protein have an effect (from different meats or Protein isolates in shakes.

When you brush your teeth, maybe you could give a couple of quick swipes to your tongue to remove any buildup?

I hope it goes away soon.

It was funny. This situation though isn't. Such a small thing is really causing big issues. I don't want to talk to anyone! Even a person a good 3 feet away makes me cautious. I have been brushing my tongue too. I will have to use mints for a while I guess. I am going to be the first sleeve patient whose cause of regain is breath mints!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
