capricec 32 Posted January 6, 2016 So I fell off the wagon and haven't been focused. I started in July and I don't know why I did I was just scared and looking for any excuse. Now I'm afraid surgery won't happen. I gained back the 10 pounds they asked me to loose. Has this ever happened to anyone else? I'm more than ready, I'm getting married this year and I'm sick of not being responsible about my weight
losergrl75 277 Posted January 6, 2016 (edited) My doctor had asked me to lose between 5 to 10% of my body weight during my 6 months (12-24lbs) which would have had me right at the 40bmi my insurance required. Well, I started out doing really well and lost quite a bit the first 3 months. I gained some of that back months 4 and 5 so in the end I only lost 5 lbs total and was nervous I would be denied. However, my doctor said that my insurance was not necessarily looking for a certain amount of weight loss per se but moreso that I had tried a 6 month medically supervised weight management program. I am not sure whether or not this varies by insurance, bmi etc. but mine was approved even with the small amount I lost over the 6 months. prettyCali916 299 Posted January 12, 2016 Mine asked me to try to lose 5% by surgery date but then we sat and filled out my projected targets for 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and a year and he used two sets of numbers: one set was if I lost the 16lbs he wanted me to and the other was if I didn't. He said either way he'll do my surgery but that the more I lose before the better he can handle my stomach during surgery which makes for a better, tighter sleeve. And then he proceeded to not put me on a liquid diet or any pre op diet except for 2 days before surgery lol. So I've put myself on one. I had some Optifast shakes so I'll be on total Meal Replacement until surgery on feb 1.
