Question for sleeverz

Recommended Posts

Do you lose weight because of the surgery? Like did you notice anything different the day of the surgery and the day after?

I guess I'm trying to prepare myself for questions that may be asked at work if there is significant change.

The surgery reduces the capacity of your stomach and appetite. To lose and maintain weight loss you must comply with making lifestyle changes - the surgery gives you a tool to do this.

Most people have pretty rapid weight loss the first 3 months, but you won't see a difference the first few days.

I highly recommend you Google gastric sleeve to get an understanding of the procedure and lifestyle changes. Good luck!

I would have to say I personally did not physically feel different before than I have felt once I healed up with a few positive exceptions. Once I healed up and got taking off weight I felt physically better and had a lot more energy. But as far as feeling any different from having a smaller stomach and appetite. Its all good!

@@Brettnbeth I just saw a study on this, there will not be enough of a change to notice. People won't start noticing till you lose about 15-20 lbs.

When you start showing loss in your face people will notice more.

The days after surgery you will be full of IV fluids and swollen from surgery, so I highly recommend that you stay off the scale and only weigh at your follow-up appointments go a while.

I started at a very high weight and did notice some physical changes in the first few days but did not weigh until a week after surgery. I was pleasantly surprised.

I find that people who weigh obsessively tend to drive themselves crazy.

Yes, initially you will lose weight only because of the surgery. Usually the first 4-6 months. Then our bodies adjust to the lower calories, and we have to help move things along. After a year to 18 months, it's pretty much ALL on us to lose and keep the weight off. That's why you start to see people gaining in that time period if they are still counting on just the surgery to do the work.

After surgery, my "full" feeling was weird. I felt it waaaay up in my esophagus. That was really the only way I felt "different". Now, besides not being able to eat a lot, I feel completely normal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
