1 year and 3 months post surgery and I can't control my hunger !

Recommended Posts

I don't really have cravings for sugar. I find that sugar kind of gets me grossed out now. I have low carbs. Just be sure to eat more good food in your body and your body should adjust internally. Maybe your mind is resorting back to old habits? We have to break that. Remember the doctor saying you have to do a new way of eating. Get rid of bad habits. Figure out what is making you reach for it in the first place? Keep trucking along, you will do just fine!

This is a long-term journey, so the diet mentality doesn't work in terms of permanent success. The most important thing I have found when I can't control my hunger, or I have an uncontrollable urge to stuff everything I can into my mouth, it always seems to come down to nutrition. When my body is getting all the Vitamins, minerals and hydration that it needs I have no problem, but when my body need something specific to balance itself it will compel me to eat until it gets enough nutrition out of whatever I'm meeting to do whatever job it needs done. Down 130 pounds with 30 more to go. I don't get upset about it when I fall off the wagon. I just use my next opportunity i.e. the next meal to do better.

@@carfeli2004 Things that help me are adapting my recipes.

Cauliflower makes a great 'rice', mashed 'potatoes', cheddar 'tater'-tots, 'mac' & cheese, etc......

Spaghetti squash (my fave is with my homemade fat free cheese sauce and maybe a turkey hot dog)

FF/SF Cannoli cream made with FF ricotta

Lasagna made with roasted slices of zucchini and eggplant

Flourless Protein pancakes with unsweetened applesauce on top

Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt

I even have some recipes for super decadent Protein muffins, brownies and cakes. Using either Protein powder and/or Beans

Quest bars and chips (did you know that if you cut up and bake a chocolate chip cookie dough one, it tastes like little chocolate chip cookies!!??, watch carefully when baking, they only take a few minutes)

If you want recipes, feel free to ask, I love to share!

All of that sounds awesome and I'm not even sleeved yet! I might want to get some recipes from you. I will be starting my supervised 6 months eating plan this Tuesday.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
