Maybe one of the HR folks can chime in. I was told FMLA is to protect your job in the event you need a medical leave but it is completely separate from pay. I will be using my sick/vacation time for pay.

It's my understanding Fmla is if you need more time off after sick vacation pay is used?

FMLA is just a federal mandate that protects your employment when you need to take time off for medical care for yourself or a family member. It does not address whether or not the time will be paid. At my employer, they require you to apply for FMLA if you will need to be off for 3 or more days, regardless of whether or not you are using benefits ( sick, vacation, std). I do have std but our benefits don't kick in until after 21 days off, so unfortunately, I won't be off long enough for it to kick in :(

Many companies require you to run fmla and pto concurrently. It kind of protects the employer from someone who has lots of pto, runs it out THEN wants to use fmla. My job is one people can accumulate LOTS of pto, so we make people use fmla and pto concurrently.

I'm actually not looking to use my pto or payment. I would prefer to save it and use FMLA. I didn't hear I had to use all my pto first before Fmla. Good question to ask.

My job mandates the use of sick time with fmla. Vacation time is optional.

I spoke to HR today and they said I would be filing disability first.

So I will need to use my sick time. I'll see if I have to use my Pto after that. If that is the case, I don't want to burn mine up. I may just go back to work after a week.

I'll keep y'all posted how it goes

Thank you all for your input

My sick time and vacation is all combined.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
