I am a singer and a music teacher. I have done any real singing since I had surgery. However, that will change when I go back to work and what not. When I breath in deeply now I do not experience any pain. Perhaps in another week or so the feeling will go away.

I sing on our worship team and I was singing about 3 weeks after, I am now almost to my 1 year surgiversary, I have found I can hold notes out way longer than pre surgery and my voice is a lot stronger... can't wait to hear about the differences you notice!

I am a singer as well. I had surgery on January 4th. Since I'm still healing, there is substantial pain when trying to sing however, I can tell that it's temporary. Within a few weeks I'm certain I'll be able to fully use my diaphragm, abdomen and lungs without any surgical discomfort.

i sang a solo 10 days after my sleeve(not scheduled that way, surgery date was moved). i had to take little catch breaths in longer phrases, but my high notes soared! my range has shifted up about 3 notes. was a bass with some strong low notes, now a baritone, heading into lyric baritone range! i'm 6 months post op and STILL use the spirometer (breathing thing with the piston)4,5,6 times a day to increase lung capacity. i have been singing bass since 7th grade, these new high notes are fun!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
