Pre Opp, The Diet before the diet

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for sleeve surgery for Feb 26/16

So I'm about 7 weeks out as of today and I understand the 2 pre Opp diet plan.

I'm around 340lbs and the doctor wants me to get down to 315lbs for surgery.

Anyone have any advice on some sort of diet plan I should go on to lose that 25lbs.

Thanks

I didn't have a set amount to lose, but I basically went "healthy low carb," meaning I did a modified Atkins/South Beach. I didn't cut myself way down on carbs, but I did cut out processed sugars and starches and made healthier choices. I shot for around 1200 cal a day with 80 gm of Protein. I found it lots easier to track my meals on MyFitnessPal (or any of the other free meal planners).

Also have been trying to learn, "protein first, Water Water water, chew thoroughly," and all the other requirements. I sent for samples of various Protein powders (or bit the big one and bought the smallest amount of others) so I would know which ones I can tolerate. It really is an individual thing.

I'd say follow the plan that you've been successful on in the past.

I would recommend high protein/low carb for the simple fact that it will help prepare you for how you will have to eat post-op.

I really love my morning coffee and on weekends may have 3 cups. I decided to start weening off caffeine or tryinng to go cold turkey now and not post surgery. Walked into Dunkin Donuts this morning, ordered a small Decaf and that was it. No donuts either. :) I didn't feel too bad. I'm also doing one Protein shake replacing one meal.

all my documentation is in, just waiting. Hoping for an early Feb. date.

I will say this, I'm not sleeping well at all. I think I just have too much on my mind. I'm so preoccupied with this whole process.

UPDATE: As of Jan. 6 10:30 a.m. APPROVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
