Surprisingly clueless people

Recommended Posts

Ever since my (former) primary care doctor suggested I just needed better cookbooks rather than weight loss surgery, nothing a physician says about obesity surprises me. Unless they are bariatric/metabolic experts they tend to be fairly clueless.

This scares me. I will be the first weight loss surgery patient my endocrinologist has monitored. Great. I guess I'm going to be the guinea pig :(

Is this in addition to your weight loss surgeon/team?

That would be like expecting your bariatric surgeon to know as much about your heart as your cardiologist, and as much about your neurological system as your neurologist. It's just not possible for all physicians to be well versed in all areas of medicine and surgery. That's why physicians specialize and why they consult each other to take best advantage of each other's knowledge - to benefit the patient.
