Hi everyone,

I literally just turned 40 2 days ago and I have 5 kids. I am a 5'3 frame weighing 210. Those friends that I have confided to about sleeve, think I'm crazy and going thru a mid life crisis. They don't seem to understand that I am only getting older and my metabolism doesn't run like it used to and that I just want to do this for myself. They think I'm crazy to go to Mexico and get surgery. Is it crazy for me to want this when I don't have a huge issue to start out with?

No.. It's alright. You're doing it for yourself, because you want to feel better in your own skin. As long as your priority is your happiness, then I don't see anything wrong with it. I personally had my surgery in Mexico, well to be more exact, Mexicali, and I couldn't have made any better choice.

Totally do this for you! Once I hit 40 I saw my blood pressure and blood sugars start to creep up as well as my weight.

I want to be healthy before I hit 50. I"m going to Mexico as well. Jan 20th. Good luck!

I think it is better if people catch things early on. I don't think people should wait until they hit super morbidly obese and have done a lot of damage to their body to have surgery. And the sleeve is not as drastic as people think.

I did it and I was only 165 lbs at 5 foot 2 but I didn't tell my friends or family. I worked out 6 days a week and still had a BMI of 30. I tried every diet out there and would lose the weight and gain it back. I decided this was the right decision for me and have never regretted it. I am not going to say there aren't risks but then again so is driving a car.

Good luck-

LA

Thank goodness you don't have to go to a committee of friends, neighbors, and relatives to determine your medical care.

Give them your doctor's phone number and tell them to "Call my doctor right away and tell him that you disagree with his diagnosis."

Tell them, "I appreciate your sudden concern for my health and welfare, but this something I must do for myself. It would be nice to have your support, but it is not necessary for my success."

Don't give away your power. You are a grown woman who can make intelligent adult decisions about her own medical care. Don't do like I did and wait until you have a stroke.

According to your BMI, you're obese. You're also over 40, and believe me, that's not a good combination. It was only after I hit about 45 is when my weight issues started really affecting my health. It really has a way of catching up to you. Nip it in the bud now.

Only in this day and age is being 5'2 and 215 not a "huge issue". We are so used to seeing so many obese people, we've lost perspective. I used to say the same thing at 5'5" and 235 with a BMI of 39. There was no getting around it, I was fat and unhealthy. Just like being pregnant, there's no such thing as being "a little obese".

Tell your friends that.

Your BMI is 37.2 which is clinically obese. You are at about the same BMI # as I was when I started. I've maintained about a 90 pound loss for 2 years. I don't know what your health issues are, (mine were multiple and worsened a lot between age 40 and 47 when I finally had my sleeve done to correct the problems). Gone are the meds for asthma, chronic joint pain, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc. (None of which I took at 40, btw. Bad behavior has a way of catching up with age)! So no, I don't think you are "too skinny" to benefit if that's the path you've chosen to take. Don't let anyone talk you out of it for that reason.

This is exactly what I told every single person who told me that they were surprised that I was approved for surgery or that I was overweight but not obese. I gave them my statistics and told them to look it up themselves. I am 5'2 and weighed 216 lbs on day of surgery. Obese is obese, you don't have to be 150 lbs overweight to be obese!

Thank you everyone! I agree with EVERYTHING! I am so pumped to get this surgery. When you have kids it's so easy to forget about yourself and I am just super excited to put myself first. I know this surgery isn't going to solve all problems but it will def give me that huge push to keep me in the right direction! I am so pumped!

I would not tell your friends if you can change that. Pretend you are losing weight on your own.

Mexico is where I went and I was fine. Better care than I ever expected.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
