Is there any nutritional value in a bowl of Pasta? In a house green salad? In a potato? In a french fry? In a bowl of rice? Now that everything is so focused on poteen I don't know why I ate these foods before. Do I have a need to ever eat them again? All these things seem like just filler foods. back in the day I would eat salad with meat just to fill up my stomach and when I was fat I would eat french fries and Pasta for pleasure but was I getting any nutritional value?

What are sample diets that you're following? I'm 2 1/2 months out and I work out five days a week or more.

you can enter food into my fitness pal to see the nutritional values.

its a good idea to get the advice you are looking for from your dietitian. Here is my two cents..lol

You will be eating vegetables and carbs again. you will be looking at them in a new healthy way. Always Protein first. as you get further out from surgery you will be able to get your veggies in. The Fiber will help keep you feeling full. It will also help your digestion. Healthy carbs..I was told to add them when I lost 75% of my weight. Healthy carbs are whole wheat, brown rice and plant based..(Not deep fried)

A meal for me now looks like this

Protein - 4.5 oz Salmon fillet

Vegetable - 1/2 cup Green Beans, sliced almonds and bacon bits

Carb - 2 table spoons Roasted sweet potato

Below is a photo to help visualize how to fill your plate.

Hope this helps

What @@jenn1 said is perfect.

I would just like to add that because of our tiny tummies, Protein and veggies are the absolute best way to get the most nutritional bang for our buck. That is why flour based carbs really are no good to us anymore (were they ever?). So yes, when the time comes when you naturally can eat a little more, then you can incorporate those things in the form of whole grains to once again get more nutritional bang for your buck with every bite. But as a rule, veggies and Protein should always be first :)

It is a whole new paradigm.

Pre-op, the goal was to maximize volume while minimizing calories. Hence the focus on bulk.

Post-op, it's about maximizing nutrition (mostly protein) while minimizing volume.

Fortunately, most of us have already stored enough fat to get us through for a very long time.

There is some nutritional value to carbohydrates but for the most part the volume we would need to eat would crowd out the more critical Protein. There is also nutritional value to salad greens, but again the volume we would need to eat wouldn't give us much room for Protein.< /p>

When were you able to eat a salad again. I love salad with chick peas, chicken and croutons.

i assume this question is for the veterans in this thread cuz I can't eat any of the things you've described.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
