RollingRing 3 Posted January 3, 2016 Did you get a card from your surgeon to show to waiters that let you order off the kids menu? Are most places receptive to this?
Crystalapril11 36 Posted January 4, 2016 Sweet tomatoes, Chili's, and a few others.
retzlpa 98 Posted January 4, 2016 The kids menus have always had crap for me. I just order off regular menu and tell waitress to bring a to go box with meal. Then I put away what I won't eat and enjoy a good dinner knowing I will have some good stuff later too!
CHM 1,009 Posted January 4, 2016 I don't know if its just the area I'm in, but I've never had trouble ordering off of kid's menus. I've been doing it since starting my medically supervised weight loss plan in September. I just ask the waiter/waitress if I can order off of the kid's menu, and its virtually never a problem, The only resistance was once when the waitress said she'd have to ask, but I just politely told her "Its never been a problem before, but please let me know if I need to select something else". The problem with full-sized meals for me is that I never eat the leftovers. Whatever I don't finish in the restaurant is wasted money. Nothing is ever as good reheated as it is fresh, and I'll always choose a freshly prepared meal over leftovers.
mykdzmom 387 Posted January 4, 2016 Yes, I did get a card, but I don't use it. I usually split something with the kids or have left overs.
jj7481 363 Posted January 4, 2016 (edited) Never heard of this, but an interesting concept. My surgeon has never mentioned this nor have I heard anything about a card being issued from any other patients. I'm certainly looking forward to the day when I can incorporate meats back into my diet (that aren't a paste/smoothie). catwoman7 11,220 Posted January 4, 2016 No card - I just tell them I had stomach surgery, and I've never been questioned. Although a lot of kids' menus are crap - e.g, chicken nuggets. I often end up getting a bowl of soup/chili or an appetizer
glitter eyes 1,398 Posted January 4, 2016 I don't have a card, but have never had a problem anywhere except at Disney at one of their character buffets and I had to pay full price.
Kelly-in-KC 0 Posted January 16, 2016 I don't have a card, but have never had a problem anywhere except at Disney at one of their character buffets and I had to pay full price. really? Heading to Disney in July was hoping for some leeway on the meals.
bugsy72 117 Posted January 17, 2016 I just got one last week at my support group meeting. Don't know if I'll make use of it or not. We'll see!
OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted January 17, 2016 I have one. I never use it. I order appetizers or some small. I don't get to go boxes ever. When a meal is over that food is over.
jj7481 363 Posted January 17, 2016 Well, an update to my previous post. I went to my 1 month post op visit and did, in fact, receive a card similar to these. It ask that I be allowed to order from the senior or kids menu. Guess my surgeon isn't that different after all.
tera1982 194 Posted January 17, 2016 Did you ask your surgeon/NUT for the card?
jj7481 363 Posted January 17, 2016 Did you ask your surgeon/NUT for the card? Didn't have to. It was presented to me after I checked in with my nurse. Primarily it's for when you start the Stage IV diet.
Spiceyfrog 269 Posted January 18, 2016 I did get a card, but have never used it. Like other posters have said, most items on the kids menu are crap and have no nutritional value anyway. I tend to order Soup almost everywhere we go (partially because I cannot tolerate meat) and if I don't order Soup, I share something with my 10 year old.
