My surgeon's recommendation is to hold off on this until a year. I think it depends on how you're tolerating foods in general.

I eat popcorn but I am 32 months post-op RNY. I would not suggest you use it until one year post-op. It is so important to maximize your weight loss in the beginning.

So I will play the devils advocate here; popcorn made low cal is a very healthy snack. I do beleive I would wait until you can consume say crackers, broccoli, lettuce foods that take more to digest. I do not think it would at all hinder your weight loss. Check with your doc but 6 months seems like a safe bet; a year I think that is pushing it you would be able to eat ANTHING by a year out!

I hate it. I can only eat 5 bites of a chicken breast but a whole bag of popcorn. I purposely never buy it because of that.

I brought this up with my nutritionist. Her advice is, like stated above, it can be a very healthy snack. However, it is easy to overeat. I have eaten popcorn and haven't had any issues but I waited until I was cleared for Stage 3.

Everyone is different. Ask your surgeon or nutritionist their recommendations. Nevertheless, ask their rationale for allowing or prohibiting it.

I have been eating popcorn since about three months. When we go to the theater, I take my own cup and take a cup full out before my husband and/or kids put butter and seasonings on it. I have not had any trouble at all.

popcorn is very high in carbs and I can eat alot and never really get full...this is the reason i don't indulge any more.

popcorn is not your friend.Cant get enough and if you have problems with your GB it can cause an attack. It can get stuck....and once you start it is hard to stop.

Had a little bit last month when we went to see Star Wars... I was about 3 months out (bypass). It didn't seem to cause me any issues, but I chewed very well. I personally found it to be rather low on the satiety to calories ratio scale, so I haven't indulged since.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
