Just a few words

I joined this forum long ago, looking for answers. I don't need answers anymore. My daughter had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in 2003. After one month, her problems began. Intractable vomiting, esophageal spasms, trips to the ER, hospitalizations, pouch strictures, pouch stretching until they finally ruptured her, causing a need for an emergency surgery, followed by years of illness after illness, surgeries, xrays, ct scans, a pacemaker, seizures and on and on and on. Until,,my precious baby girl finally died at the age of 38 after 8 months of hospitalizations. Her poor body went into cardiac arrest. She lost weight, alright. But also had 11 years of illness, intractable pain, misery. She was the bravest person I've ever known, my best friend, my baby. I don't want to hear any success stories, because Ami's story and nightmare ending negates anything that could ever be good related to the surgery. My daughter's death is not the only one that I have personally known so don't fool yourself into believing that her case was a rare or isolated case, I have personally known of 2 other deaths from this GB surgery. Three people unrelated to each other, who never knew each other. Their only common denominator is that they all had the Roux-en-y and I knew them all. This procedure took my life as I knew it away. It took and grandson's mother, my son-in-law's wife and my only daughter.

So I respectfully ask to delete my name from this forum. I don't want any further emails from bariatric pal to remind me of all the pain, misery and loss of my precious daughter.

Thank You,

Cindie Coffman

I am very sorry for the loss of your daughter.

Thank you for sharing this tragic story so that people are aware that sometimes there are complications with WLS.

May God bless you and your family.

No words could have said it so eloquently Cindy. Prayers for your emotional healing in this time of loss.

I am sorry to hear about your loss and am also concerned that you only posted two other times in two years, when you could have gathered support from the bariatric community. We have our fair share of bariatric brothers and sisters who have had disheartening complications, and they come back to support others who newly experience the same.

Since you do not want to hear of anyone's success or that we even have good days, it makes me think that your anger is displaced. Rather than be angry at us, you should be angry at the hack of a doctor who botched your daughter's surgery. Since he is dead, maybe it's not too late to sue the hospital. Those lawyers that you don't pay unless they win your case are everywhere, and they don't take on a case they think they can't win.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
