Just introducing myself

Recommended Posts

Hey, my name is Joe, I am a 46 year old man in Granada Hills. I will be having the gastric sleeve at Kaiser West LA. I was 422 at my highest. I have completed the options program required by Kaiser, and I am 10 pounds away from meeting my 10% weight loss required by Kaiser. I have my first appointment with my surgeon on January 6, 2016. I am busting my butt this week to get closer to my goal prior to my appointment. We will see how close I get. I also took my "Before" pictures at Picture People. My daughter works there, and wants to document my journey. I will post them soon!

What Dr are you seeing? I saw Dr. Zelada last week. I have not done options yet. I have to have a medical clearance due to a congenital heart defect. I am waiting for the anesthesiology department to give me clearance. I start options on the 7th in OC. I want to do the bypass, but I take aspirin everyday so Dr. is wanting me to lean towards the sleeve or change from my cardiac aspirin regimen to something that doesn't cause ulcers. I hope everything goes well.

Hey Stacy, I am seeing Dr. Kim. I am having the sleeve done. I took mine at Woodland Hills. A lot of the stuff they taught was stuff I already knew, but at 422 lbs, I needed to do something more than just know info. Lol. But the Options class was definitely a great support group! I wish you luck on your journey!

One of the girls in my class had her surgeon consultation on Christmas Eve, and asked to be put on the cancellation list. She just checked in, and will be getting sleeved this afternoon!

That's awesome. I have to have a whole cardiac team, my cardio emailed me this morning....they are working on it. So I won't be able to be on a cancellation list, they will have to schedule it, but since I haven't gotten too far into classes I am hoping they will get it all together right around the time I finish options. Praying for your friend!

How long did the process take you guys with Kaiser?

I'm just starting options. At the orientation they said it's taking anywhere from 1-3 weeks after the last class, but that's Southern California. It's different for the different Kaiser regions.

Did you sign up for your first options class? My orientation is today and I read in some of the other forums that the classes fill up and you can get stuck waiting for the next group to start.

Kaiser and Options is a great program. I'm in the San Diego area of Southern CA and we're a little different in that we have six months of classes. But it was well worth it. I had my RNY done by Dr. Tanaka on 07/29/15 and I couldn't be happier! I'm down to 152 and still losing. You all will not be sorry and congrats!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
