Working on weening myself off soda before surgery. I have done before but had two day headache bad. So was hoping someone might know a way to help with headache part. I know in the end getting off the soda will be so much better for me. Thank you in advance

Just drink a little less of it each day. I weaned off caffeine 2 months before surgery. My source was coffee and I just slowly transitioned from caffeinated to Decaf a little each day over several weeks. I don't know about soda, though. The sugar / artificial sweetener withdrawals may make it more complicated than caffeine alone. Just go slow. 1/4 can less every few days.

I did it in two major phases. I started with gradually switching from pop to something else (I drank a lot of iced tea). Once I weaned myself off of the carbonation I started switching to non-carbonated, non-caffeinated drinks (like Water, crystal light, etc.)

As @@Kindle suggests, slowly substitute one kind of drink for another. If you drink several Diet Cokes a day, try substituting one for something else, then in a few days, substitute two, and so on.

Thank you both for your suggestions. Day 1 today no soda so far and feeling great about it. I bought Crystal Light so will make some to drink in place of soda ~hoping do not get too bad of headaches :)

I have the same issue. What I have done is use half of glass of diet caffeine soda and mix with regular soda. Each day I use lees reg. Soda a more diet . I did this until I used all diet. Caffeine free soda. Then switch to Decaf tea with stevia. No headaches so far. Good luck!

I was a totally addicted Coca Colaholic, and when I decided to quit I thought it was going to be a lot harder than it was. I was lucky and had no head aches that could be totally tied to it. However I was eating at least one chocolate Protein shake or Atkins bar initially and I wonder if what ever makes their chocolate may have something that took the edge off.

take as long as you can. if you drink 2 cokes a day, drop to 1 immediately. you will still get plenty of caffeine. then drink a little less every day until you are having just a little caffeine. skip a day, then have a little more, skip a day, little more, then skip two days, have some, skeip two more days. something like that....... i am weaned off, although i do have coffee and tea sometimes and never get caffeine headaches.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
