Sleeved on Dec 28, a few questions1

Recommended Posts

Hello all! I had my VSG on 12/28, was in the hospital until wed. I have had a very easy time... like I'm worried too easy... haha. I can drink water/soup, it does cause some cramps no nausea. I'm not able to get all I'm supposed to yet, but it's getting easier every day. I don't have any pain really. I have a drain that gets taken out on Jan 6, and other than it being annoying I've had no issues from it either.

I don't know why but my LACK of pain, etc concerns me. I've heard from others I know how the first week was awful...and I'm just not seeing that.

Also, how long did y'all wait before weighing yourself?? I'm a chronic weigher. My roommate actually just hid the scales because I weighed myself and saw that I GAINED 5 pounds since surgery day... I'm sure that is normal, what with the swelling and all.. I should have known better.

I hope someone answers you as I have the same questions; I was also sleeved 12/28 and so far have zero problems drinking broth, Water or Isocure Protein drinks. I can drink about 12 oz of broth in 10 minutes and I think I am starting to feel full (have not wanted to over do it). So far, 64 oz Fluid and 60 grams of Protein are no problem, I have been drinking 2 x 20 oz Isocures/day at 40 gms protein each, plus numerous cups of broth. The only nausea I have had were the night following the surgery. Other than that, I feel almost normal, albeit a little weak.

Good luck to you!

Lots of people have very few issues after surgery. You're one of the lucky ones! :D

I had almost no pain, was up and walking the afternoon of my surgery. I did swell up really badly and have difficulties getting fluids in the first couple of days, but some are able to hit their fluids just fine one day out.

Many find that they don't have much restriction when they're still on fluids, but once they start purees/soft foods, the restriction becomes more obvious.

Do not weigh yourself often. In the early days/weeks, you may drop fast, but you might gain due to the amount of fluids they put into you for surgery. You'll retain Water too. Honestly, if you can't weigh yourself and just note the weight and move on without freaking out, I'd hide it and just wait until your weigh ins at the doc's office.

If you do decide to weigh yourself just to track, there will be days/weeks/months where you see the scale stop moving and hit a stall. Usually you'll see a stall right at the 3 week mark, and there will be many, many more and some can last weeks.

Also, take monthly measurements - arms, chest, waist, hips, legs. By taking measurements, you can see when your body is actually using up fat and building muscle when the scale isn't moving. One pound of fat is much bigger/bulkier than one pound of muscle.

I was also sleeved on 12/28. I had gas pain, no drains, and some sharp pains when eat Popsicles etc. other than that I feel good. My procedure was outpatient so I've been home since 6p Monday. I think everyone's experience is unique to that person. As for the weighing I have weighed myself also. I think we should wait until at least week 3, swelling should be down etc. I hope this helps!

I'm glad that I stumbled across this post. I also was sleeved on December 28, 2015. I've had absolutely no problems, except for some difficulty swallowing once I was moved to the pureed phase this wednesday. I also fell into the trap of weighing every day. I have been stalled for about 6 days now. Makes no sense because I lost about 25 pounds in the 3 weeks prior to surgery. I'm exercising hard every day, I am following the diet. But I am stuck, and it is very discouraging. I decided today, that I am not getting back on my scale for a while.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
