My head is so foggy I can't get my **** together. Help, please?

Recommended Posts

My doctors office submitted all my info this past week and we're hoping for a Jan 21st surgery date. I have to get myself in gear with Protein and Vitamins but I'm having a hard time remembering anything.

My best friend, who I loved, took his life on Christmas eve. I was the last person he talked too. My head is in a fog and I can't concentrate on anything other than him and why?? There's so many questions I have that will forever be unanswered but in my mind I'm playing things out 24/7.

I need to figure out this Protein and what Vitamins I need. I just, can't.

My book says I'm required to take multivitamin/mineral supplements, Calcium citrate +vit D, Iron, and vit B12. Apparently I have to take the multivitamin/mineral supplement 4x a day? I'm thinking of going with Bariatric fusion. The calcium citrate I have to have 1200-1500mg a day total from diet and supplements so should I just take 2, 500mg chewables a day and assume the rest will be made up with the diet?

As for protein, I hate it. The taste and texture of all the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury makes me gag. I wanted to do unflavored with crystle light. I don't want to buy protein and then try it and hate it. Suggestions?

I need all the help I can get. Thank you in advance. Sorry this was so long.

First of all, be gentle to yourself during this hard time. You have just experienced a tragedy and you are in shock. Forgive yourself for being spacey and allow yourself to grieve.

Protein. I hate all the Protein shakes I have tried so far. I use GENEPRO and mix it with sugar free hot chocolate or a cream based Soup. It's whey and unflavored (but not tasteless) so the milk based foods hide it better. You need to use a thermometer to keep the liquid below 140 degrees or the Proteins start to congeal like fried egg.

Vitamins. I found a one a day Vitamin specifically for bariatric patients on Amazon. It's called Bariatric Once-A-Day by Prohealth.

I am so sorry about your loss. That has got to be so devastating. Sending hugs and prayers your way. I know grief can make everything particularly challenging let alone a major stressful life change like WLS. Please be gentle with yourself and consider accepting help dealing with your grief. My church had a grief recovery group that I have found helpful. You may also want to talk with a counselor or therapist.

As to your Vitamins, I order all of mine online. I get the Bariatric Advantage calcium chews (from Bariatric Choice and the BariatricPal store). I get the rest of mine from drugstore.com. You also might consider taking the list to your local pharmacy when they aren't busy to see if they can help you find what you need.

For Protein supplements, consider trying different sample packets until you find what works for you. Also, keep in mind that your tastes may change between pre-op and post-op.

The good thing is that you don't have to have all if this figured out today.

How truly tragic -- I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss.

I can send you a serving or 2 of GENEPRO if you'd like. Then you'd at least be able to try it out and see if you like it. If you want, message me your address and I'll drop it in the mail to you on Monday. I'm in NY - so you'd probably have it by Wednesday.

Syntrax nectar is fruit flavored Protein powder. At bariatric pantry you can get 25 different flavors. The sample pack has 13 flavors. Most of them mix well with Crystal Lite Lemonade. My personal favorite is the Grapefruit nectar because when it is mixed with lemonade, it tastes just like Fresca Soda.

If I take this one a day will I have to take Iron etc? I know my booklet said later on if I take bariatric fusion 4x/day I won't have to take any other vitamins/supplements.

Yes, you will need to take an Iron supplement. I buy the Iron free Multivitamins because my tummy can't handle the iron yet. I've tried a Vitamin with iron I was running to the bathroom to vomit within 30 seconds. That is the only time since surgery that I have vomited. Iron is notorious for upsetting our new tummies.

So sorry for you loss. Please consider getting some therapy to assist you through the grieving process because you will have a hard time after the surgery. Best to work out all your issues prior to the surgery. Also, on the Vitamins and Protein, I used the MD Vitamin Patches for Multivitamins and get the Vitamin D, and Calcium chewables from Amazon.com. I did not have to take an Iron supplement. As for Protein, I love the Bluebonnett whey protein with Almond Milk. I order it from Amazon.com as well. The best thing to do is to try different ones prior to your surgery so you can find one that works for your taste buds. Although, after the surgery your tastebuds will more than likely change. I also use the GENEPRO unflavored protein. To me, it has no flavor. I sprinkle in everything.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
