Tape measure moves, scale not so much

Recommended Posts

I had my 3week post op appointment two days ago. I was feeling great on the way in because it was weigh in. I don't own a scale. HW was 255. SW 249. I weighed at my parents pool 10 days post op -232. Drum roll for official weigh in at docs... 233. Wtf? I was inches smaller in those 11 days!? I can see shrinkage in my thighs and waist. Gah! Where are those pounds stuck to me!? (Rechecks own ass, notes reduced size. Shrugs)

I am tracking that food, baby. Every day. Getting my ton of Protein and keeping the calories down. What's the score?

My doc is fine with the 15 pounds in three weeks, but I have just held there for 10 days!

I see you have 70+ posts here, so you've probably seen people talking about the three week stall, correct? It is real! Don't stress out. Keep following your plan and the weight will start dropping again. I know it is frustrating and freaky but it is also completely normal. Hang in there. ^_^

The scale is only one measure of how you're doing - be patient. Taking pictures is an awesome way to see your body change as well - I took a picture every week for the first few months…you can see yourself shrinking.

You're going to do great - be patient and don't give the scale power over you.

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the weight loss process. Everyone stalls, and most people experience their first stall about three weeks post op.

Also, keep in mind that weighing on different scales at different times can give you completely different readings.

Embrace the Stall!

If it makes you feel better, I was sleeved on 12/11. I lost 9 lbs in the first 7 days and stayed stuck bouncing up and down the same 1lb until yesterday when I weighed and whoosh down 6 lbs from one day to the next.

One pound of fat is MUCH bulkier than one pound of muscle. Your body is currently using up fat stores right now, but it's also working on building muscle back up, so that's why the scale doesn't show significant movement sometimes. What the tape measure is telling you is that you are losing fat - that is WONDERFUL. The weight will drop on the scale, but it won't be super smooth and easy. Keep measuring and tracking sizes along with actual weight. It's very encouraging to know even during a stall, things may be changing. :)
