Owners manual for Lapband... anyone read the part...

I use Dr. Muse and FillCenter in SLC as well, and I have been very impressed with him. He hasn't been doing fills for long, but he is always very fair and tries to do what is best for the patient and the band long term.

I just had my third fill and am up to 2.8cc's. This is the first time i've felt real restriction. So it may take a few fills, but I do believe Dr. Muse is trying to do what's best long term and not just make money ;)

My first fill was yesterday. I have a 4cc band and I received a 2cc fill, so I was very happy. I do have to say it REALLY changes things. I went from no restriction to big time restriction. My surgeon kept saying "go slow, go slow", but boy I didn't know what that meant until today at lunch when I ate too fast and had the most HORRIBLE chest pain for about 20 minutes. I went from about 2-3 cups of food per meal to right at 1 cup per meal.

I believe the amount of the fill totally depends upon whether or not you can swallow Water after they put the fill in. I went for my 1st fill and they put in 1cc and I was fine they tried 2 cc's and I couldn't swallow water. If you can't swallow water you won't be able to swallow food. Who did you surgery? My 1st year of fills is included with my surgery. I'm from Utah...

I don't think the dr's care how much you have for your fill..if your body will take more they give you more. I've always heard the last thing you want is to be overfilled...in pain... and have to return to have some taken out.

Best of luck!

I REALLY needed to see this thread today. I had my surgery 7/19/07, post op was 08/06/07. Between surgery and post op I'd lost 15 lbs. One week after my post op and I've GAINED 5 lbs. I was completely devastated when I got on the scale this morning. I feel like such a failure. I've been getting in ALL of my Water and most of my 70 grams of Protein, and I certainly have NOT been pigging out on garbage. I'm taking this very seriously.

I'm still disappointed that I've gained weight, but am somewhat relieved to discover that I'm not alone in that. I guess I'm gonna go back to my Protein drinks and start my walking and hopefully won't step on the scales at my doc's office when I go in for my first fill on 08/20/07 and show a weight gain. I would be just too embarrassed.

Thank all of you for your honesty and willingness to share all of your experiences. I really, REALLY want my band filled so that I can feel the restriction. I'm anxious for the hungries to go away, and to start losing weight again.

Good luck everyone!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
