Please Help!!!

Total confusion... last month when I went to the NUT she told me I should drop four more pounds to reach a 5% weight loss... HOWEVER... This was per her initial weight. I had my first NUT appointment roughly a month and a half after my initial surgeon appointment and had put on 10 pounds. So long story short it looks like I haven't lost anything from my initial surgeons appointment but I have lost since starting nutrition... which weight is my insurance going to look at?! I'm super nervous because 1/5/2016 is my last NUT appointment and that's when everything is submitted to my insurance... Thanks for the advice.

When I called my surgeons office (they submit everything) they told me they haven't heard of anyone not getting approved due to not losing enough weight (only for gaining) but I've seen on here where there have been people who were not approved which is what has gotten me nervous!

I'm sure all insurances are different, but I don't think it's that critical in my case. It was never mentioned, the surgeons office said it was all based on my initial visit weight.

@@Ryan TN Did you gain or lose during your clearance period?

I yoyo'd through my 6 months of clearance. I ended up with an 8 lbs weight loss.

Have you called your insurance and asked them what the requirements are? They would be the ones that could answer about specific requirements.

Your doctor/nut could be the one requiring the loss and it have nothing to do with your insurance. Some doctors do this for you to prove your commitment to losing.

@@Ryan TN Did you gain or lose during your clearance period?

My weight didn't really change much at all between my first visit and when I went for my pre-op visit. I lost several pounds during my pre-op diet however.

I was actually worried about losing too much weight during my 3 month supervised diet I did with my doctor. My bmi wasn't really high starting out, like 37. I asked them what would happen if I fell below the 35 during my pre-op diet, they said it didn't matter, it was your first visit weight.

I called my insurance company and they helped me find the requirements needed for approval it says nothing about weight loss or gain so I am a little less stressed now. My nut may just want me to push myself but scaring me half to death for no reason seems a little harsh! I haven't gained and I continue to lose! Lol thanks for everyone's support I really appreciate it. I am so vested in this after all the time, energy, and money I have invested not to have it done and so fabulous with it! Can't wait to start to live again!

I didn't have to lose any weight prior to my pre-op diet that I will start soon. But every weight loss program is different. My surgeon said ok as of now try not to gain any weight, either lose weight or stay at your current weight until insurance approval. And approved 1/18. ???? Now the first weight loss program that I was on required a stupid 10% of weight loss prior to pre-op. ???? I was suppose to lose 25lbs. My insurance approved it but the stupid surgeon did not approve me cuz I only lost 17lbs. ???? sorry it's super long. I hope it helps!?

I'm just hoping they can see the improvement I've made since nutritional counseling even if it isn't as much as they'd hoped ????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
