I was really hoping for a January date, but I finally have a surgery date!!!! February 8! I am so ready. I am now eating very low carb to get ready for my pre-op diet, and I am in the pool at least 5 hours a week. I've only lost 17 pounds so far but hoping to lose at least 8 more before the pre-op diet starts.

I'm so hoping for an early February date too! My insurance coordinator turns in the package this week and she has said all along that early February is very likely. I'm so excited and impatient!! Best of luck to all of you!

my surgeon doesnt require a liquid diet but basically for 3 weeks prior to surgery no starches of any kind and then the last two days prior Clear Liquids only and npo at midnight

My pre-op diet was all liquid getting in at least 64 oz of Fluid per day for two weeks. Part of that was my Carnation Instant Breakfast No Sugar added I did 4x daily. I could drink up to 8 oz of natural, no sugar added fruit juice. Other than that it was either broth, artificially sweetened & non-caffeinated drinks, or Water.

I don't know what your surgeon prescribes as far as pre op diet, but mine doesn't do pre op diets anymore. I had no restrictions at all except the day before surgery was clear liquids and a bottle of magnesium citrate(fun times lemme tell ya!) so don't assume you will have one unless your surgeon has already stated otherwise, because I sweated that idea for 2months for nothing!

Why do some surgeons do it & some don't? I've heard its to shrink your liver & get you used to a liquid diet so you find it easier post op.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
