MNSkolGal 25 Posted December 29, 2015 Surgery is in 12 hours. Have to be at the hospital in 9 hours. I'm excited, but also unsettled? Nervous, scared, anxious? I don't even know what I am anymore. Any words of wisdom?? Wish me luck!
magtart 603 Posted December 29, 2015 Good luck! Unsettled is the perfect word for the night before surgery feelings.
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted December 29, 2015 Best of luck! The only thing I can suggest is to do everything you are asked to do, even if you think you can't. Getting up and walking as soon as possible after surgery will help you feel much better soon. Be gentle with yourself and walk as much as you can. Keep us posted on how you are doing. By the way, I gave my phone to my mom with instructions not to give it back to me until I was coherent. I didn't want to risk posting or texting while loopy! Dub 9,922 Posted December 29, 2015 You'll do great.......I know this because I spy a Schnauzer in your avi pic. Schnauzers bring good luck with surgeries. My oldest has now been at a my side as I recovered from 4 different post-op healings. Great breed. Surgery is going to go great. Just like Inner Surfer Girl said.....get up and walk every 3-4 hours at least. You'll profit from doing so in a big way.
jembell01 129 Posted December 29, 2015 I have to be at the hospital in 3 1/2 hours too! We can do this. I'm anxious too, but am ready to take back my life and not be buried under this weight. Prayers for peace and a smooth surgery for you and the others having surgery today.

MNSkolGal 25 Posted December 30, 2015 Home, and still trying to get comfy with the gas pains. I did so well, they let me go a few hours early. I admit, I'm nervous about getting dehydrated without the IV. Sipping away!
MNSkolGal 25 Posted January 2, 2016 A little update: I'm 4 days out, and I have been so lucky. Everything thus far has been very easy. I had quite a bit of gas pain when I woke up from anesthesia, which got me anxious, but it subsided. I've made sure to get up once an hour and pace around the living room and kitchen. Much too cold and slippery out to go for walks outside, but I'm looking forward to doing that when I can! I stopped taking the pain meds and the anti-spasm/nausea meds. They made me more sleepy than they helped with pain. I'd say my pain level is at a 1, if not lower. It never really got higher than a 3 the whole time in the hospital. I did sneeze once, which hurt for a second, but other than that, it's been ok. I met my liquids goal the last two days, but I've been sipping like it's my job. Today I stopped using the ounce measuring cup and have been sipping out of glasses and a bottle. I have a bit of tightness in my chest sometimes after sips, but I think it's a spasm. Kind of feels like a hiccup that never fully happens. It's momentary and then passes. I'm excited to try Protein tomorrow!
