When did your Dr say you could have any sort of bread, crackers, rice, Pasta again, if ever?

I'm curious because mine is very limited on a forever basis but I've seen others having crackers at 3-4 weeks out.

Everyone's surgeon has a different set of guidelines. It's pointless to worry about what someone else's doctor tells them, you just pay attention to what your doctor is telling you.

2goldengirl is correct. You need to follow your surgeons routine.

That being said I am allowed to have certain crackers 1 week out. Very limited choices. Pasta and bread is five weeks out.

Mine is no crackers, bread, Pasta, rice for a minimum of six months. My surgeon says they make a Gummy ball in your stomach and he doesn't want to have to go in and retrieve it - he's had to do it before.

That being said, bread is my weakness. Specifically, crunchy garlic bread. I plan on waiting a heck of a lot longer than six months because of that.

That is the reason I can only have certain crackers. Saltines and Ritz are a no-no. I can however have triscuits, as they don't create that doey ball you refer to. Not sure on the bread. I sure do miss my subs...

I'm not sure why the need to remind someone to follow their Dr's orders when the thread clearly is asking out of curiosity.

That makes sense, that you can only have certain types. I wouldn't have thought about a doughy ball that someone had to remove. That's crazy.

My surgeon's guidelines allowed crackers or well-toasted bread fairly early on, but I don't remember exactly when, because I chose not to go down that road. I was cleared for "all" foods at six weeks, but with the caveat that I should be careful introducing bread, Pasta, and rice as those things can be hard to digest post-op, and they can hinder weight loss.

I'm 6 1/2 months post-op, and I have not tried rice or Pasta at all (I have had bean pasta a couple times). The rice I haven't had because it doesn't add enough nutritionally to be worth it to me, and because I'm afraid of it being painful. The pasta I have avoided because it's a trigger food for me (there are still times when I swear I'd sell my soul for a bowl of mac-and-cheese), and I'd rather wait until I am well and truly settled into maintenance mode before I try it.

I've had crackers on two occasions since surgery--two multigrain ones topped with some really yummy cheese at a wedding about a month ago, and two Triscuits on Christmas Day with some buffalo chicken dip. I also had two small tortilla chips to scoop some queso dip on Christmas Eve. Definitely not something I plan to have on a regular basis.

The only bread I've had has been a couple tiny crusty bites at restaurants, when it was freshly baked and there was a fancy flavored butter. I had a couple small bites of stuffing on Thanksgiving. I occasionally have 1/2 of a low-carb tortilla as the "crust" for a homemade pizza, or cut into triangles and baked into "chips."

I waited until I was at 75% of my excess weight lost before I even tried bread or crackers. I wanted to keep the momentum I had going to get to my goal weight, and I knew bread and crackers didn't really fit into that equation. Protein and veggies did.

Even now 16 months later, they are limited. When I do have them, it's either nut crackers and whole grain, nutty breads so I can get some nutrition from them. The white stuff seems to cause me terrible cravings, so I try to stay away from it.

Oh, and if you are missing the crunch of crackers, I recommend trying cheese crisps. You can make them yourself (shred some cheese, place in little piles on a baking sheet, and bake until crispy) or be lazy like me and buy them at the grocery store.

I am a bread junkie! And was seriously dying, even just during the 2 week liquid diet pre-op. My liquids allowed for oatmeal though, and I found an amazing oatmeal waffle recipe online (just oats, skim milk, and water), and mad myself some to get through. Now I am on soft foods, and do the same, though I usually only have about 1/2 of one triangle.

Same with me Babbs. I'm only 4 1/2 months post op and have had no bread or Pasta. I couldn't fit it after eating my Protein anyway.

My plan allowed bread at 6 weeks out but it says "all bread must be toasted and crispy". I guess this is to prevent that "doughy ball" people are referring to. My nutritionist also told me not to have starchy carbs every day. I usually have bread, Pasta, or some kind of cracker/chips maybe 1-2 times per week.

I'll be one year out on January 3rd, I haven't had any bread and crackers. Quite honestly I'm scared as heck to give in, I feel like those were trigger foods for me but oh man would I love all of that again. I don't miss it in front of me but do think of it time to time or when it's like freshly made bread and smells extremely good!!

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life.       Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
