I get my surgery tomorrow morning at 10am. I thought I could handle this like all my other surgeries but I'm a little nervous. I think it's the afterwards that scares me. Can I do it, will I be able to do it? I live in Austin, TX.

Hi,

I'm being sleeved tomorrow!

I'm in France, so I can be a buddy from afar :-)

I know you won't be ready this soon since it's the 14th today, so I hope all went well!

You can do this!

I have the same trepidation as you about afterwards. How bad will it be? Will I be able to stand it?

I mean, my second child was 9lbs and my epidural stopped working and I was able to do that, but I also wasn't able to finish getting a tattoo because I got lightheaded and threw up! I don't know if I can trust what I thought my pain tolerance is anymore. I just don't want to be a sobbing, snotty mess afterwards. But, if I am, I am and hope they keep the good pain meds coming my way. :)

I don't have to be at the hospital until 1.30p est, but I'll definitely be keeping you in my thoughts!

You guys have this. I had my surgery just over a year ago and very happy I did it. You will have your up's and down's but keep looking forward. We are all here for you. I am in the north seattle area and if you ever are in doubt I am here. We all need a support structure in place and I have had one of the best.

Keep up the great work.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
