What's your workout routine?

Apologies if I didn't find this in my search, but I'd like to know how far out from surgery you are and what your workout routine is.

I'm just over a month from my sleeve, but a gallbladder removal set me back another month before I can start working out. Personally, I'll be working out at home using my heavy bag, treadmill, weights, bicycle and a yoga mat. I'll miss swimming but a gym membership is too expensive so we got the treadmill instead.

Even if you go to the gym- what do you do? How many days, which exercises, etc.?

I barely did anything the first 4 months. I was so freaking exhausted, I just couldn't move more than needed for my day to day.

Around 6 months, I finally started getting some energy, and began walking and swimming. At about 7 months, added back in biking. At this point, I was swimming around 5 days a week for 2-3 hours (not constant laps, but in the pool, diving and swimming and running underwater and playing catch/pool volleyball - it was both for fun and exercise). I was riding my bike to the pool every time as well - .60 mile total each day. And then I added in a yoga class once a week.

My current schedule at just over a year out:

Walk 2-4 miles 5+ days a week on a walking trail (with small hills/valley terrain - I LOVE my walking trail!!)

I might be walking 7 days a week if not for some weird pains I keep getting in my hips (working on hip abduction exercises to try to work that out now)

Yoga - one structured class once a week; 1-2 at-home yoga sessions (30-45 minutes)

Biking a few times a month (depends on weather; I like walking in rain, but not getting my bike soaked)

One weight-type workout - some pushups, leg lifts, hand weights, etc... mostly concentrating on arms tho since the rest of the stuff works the lower body more

When the pool opens for the 2016 season, I'll be adding back in the biking/swimming 5 days a week minimum

(swimming does not feel like exercise to me, so I do it every chance I get)

I am just over 7 months out. I didn't start working out until 4 months post-op. No good reason except for the fact that I was so out of shape the thought of exercise just seemed daunting. I eased into my workout routine. At first it was short walks around our neighborhood with the dog. Typically about 20 minutes. I then doubled the distance and started doing 40 minutes. When the weather started to turn cold I got a cheap gym membership so I could use the treadmill there. I then started doing 30 minutes of walking, and slowly added in running. My goal is to run a 5K by May so I am not pushing it too hard. I still like to keep it to just over 30 minutes so I am increasing my speed rather than the length of time I am working out.

some kind of water-based cardio 2x a week (Water aerobics, Aqua Zumba, or swimming laps)

TRX (for strength-training) 2x a week

yoga 3x a week (more if I'm having a stressful week - it helps!!)

I am 6 months post op and went back to the gym about the 1 month mark, when the dr said I could go back. I started doing light aqua aerobics 2-3 times a week. Once it started getting colder ( there is no way I would be getting a pool right now) I started doing glow aerobics 2-3 times a week. Its an awesome class and I love it. I also just started to increase my cardio more and add weight training ( drs orders)

Whatever it is I may do, Aerobic Activity is #1...everything else is essential, but secondary.

I am 2 weeks post op and joined a gym today. Last week I just walked 30 minutes around the neighborhood just to get started. Today I did 2 miles/40 minutes on treadmill and it felt great. I also bought a Fitbit so I can track my steps ( 10,000 steps is my goal every day) just start walking and ease your way in the rest over time

I'm 19 months post surgery. I run 3x a week usually a minimum of 5 miles. I take a kickboxing class 2x a week and a weight lifting class 1-2x a week. I was working out more but because of some weird lab results I was ordered to dial it back a bit. I've been on this schedule for the past year

I'm 6.5 months post op. I currently take Water aerobics/toning classes at the Y about 3 times a week, yoga once a week, and I try to walk my dogs most days for 30-40 minutes. I have a Garmin fitness tracker, and I try to get in 10K steps per day.

I am 4 months post op and walk my dog about 30 minutes daily and hit the gym about 6 days a week. At the gym I do the following:

- Small group fitness classes 3 days a week. I am a month into these classes and they are helpful in mixing things up a bit. The trainers come up with new exercises each session and have introduced me to some of the fitness "toys" (kettle bells, medicine balls, TRX, ropes).

- Cardio (rower, bike, elliptical)

- Weights (free weights)

In January I hope to add swimming to the mix.

I started couch to 5k about four weeks after surgery and added yoga classes about three months later and the occasional TRX class for strength.

Now two years post op I run 4-5x per week (about 15-20miles a week) and do yoga classes 3-4x per week for strength and flexibility

I am 8 months out and I am training for a 5 K so I run 5 days a week. I also do zumba 1-2 times a week, and then body pump 2 times a week.

I can not wait to be feeling well enough to get off this couch and MOVE! 5k!!! I make so many excuses right now. My surgery is tomorrow (12/30) and I am counting the hours!!!!

I am just short of 6 weeks. I too had gall bladder removal surgery and also a hiatal hernia repaired so I'm not cleared for the gym yet. Have been Water jogging with pool weights, lap swimming since week 2. Next apptmt is 1/19 and hope to be cleared for weights/gym. I was just diagnosed with severe arthritis of the right hip so I've been advised not to walk without a cane (which I'm too stubborn to use yet), no walking/jogging for exercise so have to wait until I'm cleared for the gym to do more. Except for this week because of injection to hip which I had to miss 2 days in the pool, I have been going 6 days a week for a minimum of an hour and am about to up that to 2x a day.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
