Kaiser West LA Dr. Zelada

Recommended Posts

Has anyone recently gone through the options classes in OC or LA. I am in OC< but will have my surgery in LA so I am closer to my cardio's at sunset. They don't do any bariatric surgery at sunset, so next best choice in West LA. I have only had heart surgeries, and the cardiac ward is awful. How is the recovery rooms at West LA, the surgery/recovery doesn't worry me. My biggest concern is the rooms at West LA. My cardio's always get me the best rooms, for being a cardiac patient. I won't have my doctors at West LA, so I won't have them making arrangements for me. :(

Since I am considered "high risk", they have referred me to Zelada even before classes to make sure he is ok with the surgery and they can get a team together to monitor my cardiac condition. I see him this week.

Thanks in advance for any info!

Stacy

PS

when i search, there is no new info.

I just got my appointment for a September consult with Dr. Zelada. How was your experience?

I've only read positive things about him. I'm hoping to get the VSG but have a few other health conditions; polycystic ovarian syndrome and irritable bowel syndrome that I want to talk to him about. Obviously I don't want to have a procedure that would make these conditions worse. The obesity itself is the biggest health concern I need to address.

Please share your experience with Dr. Zelada.

I ended up having to go to San Diego due to my congenital heart defect. Zelda is an awesome Dr and he worked with my pediatric and adult cardiologist to find me a Dr with facilities who could perform my RNY. I'm 14 weeks out and doing well. I have PCOS. My periods returned with in weeks and have been normal. They are on time and only last for 4 days. That in it self is pretty unbelievable.

Wow! I have PCOS as well and it sounds like thw RNY is helping resolve your PCOS symptoms! I had to postpone my surgery consult as I have been having some pretty serious gastric issues these last several weeks (GERD, severe diarrhea, abdominal cramps). I have to see a gastroenterologist to figure out what's going on with me before I can proceed with pursuing VSG as an option. They need to rule out any serious diseases such as Crohn's or ulcerative colitis. Thank you for responding. Glad to hear good reviews about Dr. Zelada.

There are no Kaiser patients?!

I just met him last week. We signed the concent forms. I hear he is real good. I'm driving down from antelope valley for this surgery cause my sister and a nurse told me West LA is the kaiser to get this done. They're the best I heard. My sister is going to get bariatric there too and she goes to the sunset one, and also had heart surgery there. Sorry I can't provide feed back for the recovery rooms but I hope they're nice for both our sakes, we'll three I'll throw my big sis in the mix

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
