Hey Tim, welcome aboard! I live in the Pacific Northwest too :-)

I'll be thinking of you this Sunday and saying a little prayer for ya.

I can't wait to watch you track your progress, you'll do great! I'm a newbie too, and glad to meet you. Some challenging days are ahead but there is definitely LIGHT at the end of the tunnel this time! Seems that there is some diet modifications that bandsters have to make, but more tolerable after the band, and the weight will stay off, and not sneak back like usual. So the effort will be worth it! Congratulations on your courage and your decision!

Hi Tim, I'm waiting until I can get a week off work in October. Meanwhile I'm reading and learning here! I'm in the pre-op testing phase, you know, psychologist, etc. It kind of feels like jumping off a cliff. "Here we gooooooooooooo!" and hoping you don't splat at the bottom. I know the band won't turn me into some exercise-diva who loves organic food but I think it will help me tame my appetite, while I work my @$$ off doing the rest of the work. Gotta stay positive! I'll be looking for your postop posts!

Holly

Oh and blue eyes <img src="http://www.LapBandTalk.com/images/smilies/happy.gif" border="0" alt="" title="" smilieid="60" class="inlineimg" />. I'll probly have a metal band shirt on. It is called Hospital Angeles ... brand new state of the art from what I've heard.

If you haven't already heard about it, there is a Yahoo group for Dr. Kuri's patients which you can find HERE ... Alot of useful info, straight from his patients.

What day are you flying down?

to Tim and hello from me. I, too, live in Seattle and am in the 'waiting' stage for my insurance approval. Plan to go under the knife as soon as I hear the word "go".

Best of luck!

CONGRATULATIONS TIM.... I wish you much success in your journey.

Have you contacted a doctor in the states to do your fills?

I am not banded yet but hope to in October. My insurance does pay and I am in the 6 month supervised diet stage at this time.

Keep us posted.

Have you chatted on LBT? There are wonderful people that are willing to answer any question you might have regarding band life. It's because of people on this site that I fully made my mind up to be band.

I am usually online between 9:30-10:30 pm.

Pop online and join in the conversation some times.

I met two people on this site that flew to Mexico for surgery.

One had it July 20th and returned to work on July 25th or July 26th.

Both are doing great. The other had her surgery done on July 11 and back at working doing fine.

I wish you the best.

Keep me posted.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
