Nobody told me about this!

What is happening?!

I haven't had a period since my endometrial ablation in 2009. Now I've been taken down completely for four days with cramps and, without being too descriptive, an apparent slaughterhouse of a period.

I was sleeved on Dec 1. The explanations I've found online say that hormones in fat are the culprit, and this article (http://www.everydayhealth.com/pms/weight-and-your-cycle.aspx) might kind of explain it, but the ablation was supposed to end this sort of problem.

For those of you who have more post-surgery time logged, will this be part of the new me? Do men experience a hormonal disturbance as well? And at less than a month out, what is safe to take for pain? The liquid kiddie Tylenol isn't helping at all.

Women often have crazy cycles after WLS because of the hormones getting released, and it is usually temporary until your body stops pouring out the estrogen from your fat stores. But it is kind of weird that you are bleeding after an ablation. I had an ablation in 2008 and have not shed a drop of blood since. Even after my VSG. The cramping, I understand because technically, we are still cycling. But where's the blood coming from? You may want to consult with your surgeon, or better yet your OB/Gyn.

As for pain Meds, talk to your surgeon. I am allowed NSAIDS as long as I take a PPI and carafate while on them, but not everyone is off the same thoughts.

In case anyone wanders by here and has the same concern...

My doc gave me a depo shot and everything has been fine since. I laughed when she said it could cause weight gain.

I have had ablation via novasure. Pain, cramps, terrible PMS would be expected after VSG. But if you have had a successful ablation you shouldn't bleed. Ablation destroys your endometrial layer so you can't build up the blood in the first place. I think this warrants speaking to your obgyn.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
