Hysterectomy AFTER Sleeve

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 3/16/15 and life has been great so far. I'm about 40lbs from goal and couldn't be happier.

I am scheduled for a laparoscopic hysterectomy in a few weeks and I'm trying to research and prepare. Unfortunately I haven't found anyone who has had sleeve then hysterectomy. Many have had the reverse.

I'm looking for personal experience as life after sleeve is slightly different. Recovery, appetite, energy levels, etc. Any help would be appreciated!

Mine was before sleeve, too. About 4 1/2 months. It delayed my WLS.

It is tough. Much tougher than WLS. There is a forum called HysterSisters that I recommend checking out for any questions you may have. Xx

I am curious about this too. I have a fibroid that is giving me minor urinary issues. My OBGYN said that it could wait until after my sleeve though, which is 1/26. I am hoping I don't have to end up having the two surgeries super close together! Anyway, my OBGYN made it sound like recovery from the lap hysterectomy would be easier than sleeve recovery, since the sleeve is so life changing.

Noooo.. sleeve recovery was way less painful. At least for me. I had my hysterectomy Nov 2014 and then sleeve in April 2015.

Just out of curiosity, did you have the hysterectomy done laparascopically and was it a full hysterectomy? I'm having mine done robotically and only having my uterus removed - I'm guessing that is why my doctor said that. She said recovery is typically very easy in those cases. Either way, I'm not looking forward to the recovery part of either! lol.

Sorry I am no help since I had a radical hysterectomy a few yrs ago. Age 31 and havent had sleeve done yet. But I would think depending on what procedure they do will determine how painful it will be. I had a zipper cut incision but they went in through same incision from 3 prior surgeries. But I'm thinking sleeve will be a piece of cake compared to that. But I had other complications from surgery so abdomen pain was the least of my worries. But sooo glad I had it done! I was put on birth control to control hormones since my body automatically went into menopause. But once I started those, my hormones leveled out a lot and I had no problem with energy. However, I did gain weight and it went straight to my abdomen and that was never the case before. Thats why I am getting wls. But you should be fine and I wouldn't worry about pain too much if I were you!

Coming back to this as I am now post-op both sleeve and hysterectomy. The hysterectomy was WAY easier for me (mainly because of the horrible nausea that I had post-op sleeve). My hyster surgery was Davinci robotic, and outpatient. I am sure the type of surgery makes a huge difference.

I had my surgery two months ago and I agree, the hysterectomy was much easier than the sleeve. My only concern is the 8lbs I gained but I'm clear for exercise so it's on.

I too had a Hysterectomy after being sleeved! With my sleeve everyone kepted telling me I was going to have so much energy. However, that did not happen until after I had the hysterectomy. Both surgeries have helped save my life!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
