Dr. Carlos Altamirono in Tijuana Mexico

Recommended Posts

I would like to hear the good, bad and ugly.

My husband and I are self pay but both wanting the surgery. He is very much against going to Mexico. I'm very hesitant myself.

My surgery is on the 9th but I can tell you from having a Skype session with him, that he is the real deal.  I am an RN and did lots of research before choosing him, and the Skype session sealed the deal.  He will also ask questions of YOU, which was a nice surprise.  He wants to make sure you understand the process and how the sleeve is a tool for you.  He has many youtube videos that are very informative as well.  I was initially against Mexico too, but Dr. A. changed my mind.  His outcomes are excellent and you can read about the hospital as well.

My sweetheart won't be having the surgery, but if I had my choice I would definitely do it together.  It seems most patients do quite well.  If you book Dr. A. through BariatricPal, you will be assigned a valet and be up and shopping the next day and seeing the sights.

I have friends, a married couple, who had their surgery on the same day. Unfortunately, the wife developed some pretty serious complications post op and had to stay in the hospital for over a week. They both say now that they wish they had waited and had their surgeries separately. Her husband was just recovering and really couldn't be there for his wife like he wanted to, especially early on when she was more critical. It's something you might want to consider when scheduling your dates.

Hi.

I had surgery with @@Dr. Altamirano on 12/7/15. He and the whole whole staff wonderful! Can't say enough good things about my experience. He did a great job. I was up walking within a few hours. Since preop I am down 50 lbs.

The only bad was my husband got kidney stones while in Mexico. They are great at Bariatric surgery but didn't do a good job with that. He had to cross the border to San Diego to get good care.

My husband had his surgery 2 1/2 weeks before me. We decided we wouldn't do it together so we could take care of one another. But I will say if you both have it the same day with Dr. A, there is always someone taking care of you. Whether it be the Florence Hospital staff or the BariatricPal Mexico staff. They take wonderful care of you!!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
