Recommended Posts

Hello! I am scheduled for the 31st and will probably be going alone. If there is anyone else out there for around same time I'd love to chat. I am having such a hard time w/ the preop diet. keep telling myself it's still early and I will start it later... Agh!!! It's like the last supper syndrome a month early!

I am scheduled for 8/31 in upstate NY. I found out my surgery date a week ago and have wanted to eat everything in sight ever since! I had to lose 15# before I could have surgery, now I am afraid I will gain most of it back in the next month. I really need to get a grip on this!!

What kind of preop diet are you on? Once I lost the required 15# I didn' have any special diet, but am trying to be smart about what I eat.

For my preop (starting today) I'm doing Atkins. I could have done the Optisfast which is two shakes and a meal each day but that is just NOT enough for me to eat. I would rather eat all I want of low carb foods. This morning I had scrambled eggs smothered in cheese. Way better than a shake. Plus I am drinking the Atkins shakes as a snack. I know the preop is so hard especially since I am a SUGAR ADDICT!!!!! The thought of no Cookies, ice cream, brownies, etc. is going to be so hard on me! What kind of diet are ya'll on?

No special diet restrictions for me, I needed to lose 15# preop, I have done that and finished all my appointments so I am on my own until surgery on 8/30. I had been doing well, had actually lost another 8#, but the last 2 days have seen me really backslide...I am trying to get my eating back under control, but the thought of 2 weeks of liquid diet postop has me wanting to eat everything in sight!

Not feeling nervous yet, not about the surgery anyway, more about trying to plan and have the right things to drink and keep me satisfied post op!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
