Lexuskela 158 Posted December 27, 2015 I had a hiatal hurnea . Spelling? Fixed during my surgery in July. My surgeon told me it was possible that heartburn could come back with the sleeve. I was basically heartburn free the first few months!! It was fantastic!!! Then I would get it here or there, but no big deal and it would go away easily with ranitidine and tums. Now I feel like I get it almost daily and I eat more tums and it's not quick to go away with ranitidine like early on it was. It's not like it was before surgery, but I am scared. Does anyone have issues with heartburn at 5 months after surgery and it not as easily healed as quickly as in the beginning?
pinkbunies 359 Posted December 27, 2015 Oh yes. Have you woke up in the middle of the night vomiting stomach acid? I have. It sucks. My doctor put me on a prescription called pantoprazole. I take 40 MG of pantoprazole twice daily. It's a very affordable medication and currently its free with my insurance. After I started taking this, all of my heart burn and acid issues went away. There are some nights I forget to take it and sure enough, I'll know as I'll wake up later in the night choking on stomach acid. I had tried over the counter stuff but it wasn't really effective. Hope this helps.
