What the hell is wrong with me?

Recommended Posts

I am having surgery on Tuesday, the 29th, and I cannot stop eating....I know I shouldn't be eating but there are so many leftovers and cupcakes/candy in the house from the holidays....

I know what I need to do so this is more of a "what the hell is wrong with me" vent. My friend had the bypass a few weeks ago and I was doing good until she scared the crap outta me and said, " eat what you want, because you won't be able to afterwards". I have been a mess since. ????

Do yourself a favor do not stress over what your friend said you will be able to eat anything you want after you had your healing time focus more on you and if your surrounded by temptation give it away throw it in the freezer if it can be frozen cupcakes freeze quite well... Or pitch it! Remember what your goal is right now and follow doc orders for prediet once you get the surgery done its a bit easier on you just wipe the gotta have it because i wont later out of your mind because its a lie.

Good luck and huggs!!

Your friend gave you awful advice.

I can't speak for bypass patients but as a sleeve patient I can eat whatever I want. The difference is the amount of what I can eat. Because that amount is small I choose to make sure that what I eat is quality. I go for real food; fresh veg, and because I am vegetarian Beans, eggs and cheese. I don't reach for junk food. However I can eat pretty much anything I want. Yesterday I had chocolate chips Cookies. That's not a typical choice, but I can have it if I want. My thought process is different. Now it's why would I regularly eat chocolate chip Cookies when I went through surgery, and then 6 weeks of reintroducing food back into my life (2 weeks all liquid/2 weeks purees/2 weeks soft foods)? Why would I eat chocolate chip cookies regularly when I spent the past year exercising to loose 115lbs?

It's about making good choices and not being a slave to food. The holiday's are over. Get rid of those leftovers. You don't want to go into surgery still having cravings from all those sugary carbs.

And it felt good to make that choice, right? You have made many choices. Stick to your guns and what you want your outcome to be.

It did feel good to throw it all out. I had 1/2 a mandarin orange cake that my Mom left, 16 strawberry cheesecake cupcakes that were "left over" from our large dinner, pumpkin rolls, broccoli cheese casserole, and a couple of other things...I actually gave the cupcakes to my neighbor and his daughter, but other than that, it's all gone. I have stuck to complete liquids today and will be on them tomorrow. Setting my self up for success, not failure! Less than 48hrs ladies and gents! I'm ready to be on the loser's bench and take back my life!

GOOD FOR YOU! You are doing this for you...nobody else. I can't wait to get started. It takes me a long time to decide on important things (like this), because I want to make sure it's the right thing. Once that decision is made, I'm ready for it!

I can't wait to hear how you do.

My day is Wed. I am on a food extravaganza. I have thrown everything out. Had shrimp and a baked potato. And butter....lots of butter. My dr didnt put me on any pre-op liquids. No more tomorrow is another day to start a diet. I am changing my life - looking forward not lifting my stomach apron to fold clothing into it so it doesn't stick. I am in this forever.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
