I did not cheat. Not once, not that the second and third day I didn't want to eat the dog, but I didn't cheat. AND it was the BEST feeling in the world to be able to say so!!!

I feel so bad right now I'm crying I had half of a chicken breast :omg: so does that mean I'm going to fell with the lap band and maybe i should just cancel my surgery? This is really hard i like the Optifast but i get tired of the veggies.

Don't worry. I was banded on Friday and I cheated bad on my pre-banding diet. I ate at all the restaraunts that I loved. As long as you at least try, that is what matters. You won't be able to cheat after the surgery without felling like you are being hugged around your mid-section by an elephant's trunk!

I certainly can not speak from experience, but don't give up in the at the finish line- you are so close. A chicken breast, heck even a piece of cake is not going to ruin it for you. Just do your best. Just remember there are thousands and thousands of people getting WLS and they can't all be saints. Hang in there sweety, and when it is my turn to do the pre-op diet you can be my shoulder to cry on.

A preop diet was recommended but not required by my Doc. I did do it though. I had the shakes twice a day than a small meal for dinner. By the time the two weeks post op liquids were done, I never wanted to see another friggin Protein shake ever again. I was cleared this week for 'regular' food and get my first fill on 8/8.

I think the preop diet helps though. I never needed the bottle of Percocet, just liquid Tylenol for a day and a half and never got any of the gas pains in the shoulders. Was really fortunate.

I'm scheduled for 7/30/07 and have cheated like crazy! I don't know why it's so impossible for me to stay on the liquid diet, but then again I wouldn't need a lapband if I were able to have such willpower. I'm thinking I'm not going to tell my doc - just do the best I can between now and then. COMMENTS???

If a half cup of BBQ Sauce licked off a spoon is cheating...I CHEATED!!!!! AT least it was liquid:rolleyes:

No fat but 15 grams of suger for every 2 tablespoons. I feel guilty as hell!!!!!!!!!! Im working in my freinds yard tomorrow. I'll sweat it out!

I cheated... And I hate myself for it. I had my surgery last week (Friday), and it went very smoothly. I am only 22, which apparently helps a bit. My willpower is so bad that I am scared I am going to cheat again - even after the band. I cannot do the liquid thing for much longer! I am so sick of Soup, juice and Water - particularly as everyone around me tucks into hearty winter foods (southern hemisphere). All I have learnt is that cheating isn't the major problem that some seem to make it out to be, but rather a warning that you may have to work a little harder to stay on the straight and narrow after you have your band.

hi

pre op...i ate everything that didnt eat me.....

in fact i'm glad i did that...i sort of got it all out of my system. i dont crave alot of the junk i previously ate.

my dr does not have a complicated pre op diet....i just couldnt eat meat (which i dont really like anyway)

after the operation...everything changes.

post op we do have to choose which path we want to take. before i was banded i got scared when i saw people with the band for over a year and they lost 10 lb and needed to lose 100. what i realized was...they would sit themselves in taco bell everyday.

the other group of people that lost in a steady good way...followed a food plan (they did have slips once in awhile) but they went to the gym, they drank Water, etc.

i did worry preband about being able to do it...but the band does help "tame the food demons"

good luck

I cheated with beef Jerky twice. I was on a Liquid Protein diet for one week, on day 5 & 6 I had beef jerky. I needed to chew SOOOO bad and I was SICK of sweet Protein shakes...so I did the best I could and had chewy pure protein. The doc said my surgery went picture perfect. I don't think half a chicken breast will do you in :) At least it was pure protein! Hang in there, it's almost time ;)

My dr. does not require any pre op diet. I ate whatever I wanted right up until the day prior to surgery. No problems. I then was on liquids for 3 days, mushy for 4 days, then fish and chicken. I am fine. Good luck. I guess each dr. has different ways of doing the same procedure. Ja9

Don't worry about a chicken breast - just down the street at the TLBC (the other Toronto clinic) we can have a chicken breast daily. As long as it was skinless and not slathered in cheese or sauce, you should be fine! I am on day 7 of the pre-op diet and I am about to throw the Protein Shake, and the chicken breast, out the window!!! Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
