Merry Christmas to Me!

Recommended Posts

I finally did it, I was sleeved on the 21st!

I'm Dennis, married, 30 years old with a VERY active two year old. I'm from a farming family in rural NC, so I was always active outdoors, hunting, fishing, etc.

Just like many of the folks here, my weight has been a lifelong struggle. I was over 300lbs by the time I was 15, until I hit my all time high of 405lbs at 19. I'm 30 now, and for the last 5-7 years, I have maintained right around 350, sometimes more, sometimes less.

I had been looking at WLS for a long while, but it always seemed to take a back burner to whatever else I had going on. I finally decided that this was my year, I wanted to be able to keep up with my son, and just be able to enjoy life in general, without being so self conscious or tiring out so easily. I wanted to feel good about myself!

I had a fairly easy process, from my first seminar to the surgery date was only about 4 months.

I'm now just a few days out, and adjusting well. Christmas day wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. I really had no desire to eat a thing. Getting my fluids in has been a chore enough! I'm going to use this thread to document my journey, post progress pictures, and just stay encouraged and on track.

Surgery Day! 12-21-15

hey dude

welcome aboard newbie

always room for one more!!

you are off to a great start

besides Water and Protein et al

taking your measurements periodically is great reference

good for you that you realized your importance

and put yourself "out there" on the front burner,

right were you belong!!!

you work with the sleeve and it will work with/for you!!!

getting all your Water can be difficult

are you able to keep it down/no problems

try drinking water et al at room temp

at 5 days+ take slow, slow, slow sips

eventually you will be able to drink more/and faster

eventually be able to gulp

water is more important than protein

you don't water to get dehydrated!!!

IMO drinking 64+ oz of water is one of the MOST important rule

protein is next, and very very important

if you think it would help

use a timer set for 5,10 minutes etc

read, listen, learn

hear good advice, experiences, suggestion

you'll sometimes see a similar question posted

that you wanted to ask

but at the end of the day

only listen to your NUT/surgeon (me too of course!! )

allll the rules are essential to follow for success

that's why they call them "rules" silly head LOL

this is a marathon, not a sprint

one day at a time!!!

your NEW YEAR is starting off with a bang!!

good luck

kathy

I loved liquids stage!!! Hated pureed. Everything smelled bad to me, icky texture, got sick a few times and was so fatigued I had to nap everyday and go to bed early. I didnt want to eat at all b/c I could feel every bit go down. I hated the sensation of it. Liquids were a breeze and still use Protein Shakes at least once a day. I talked to my nurse and just concentrated on getting down foods best i could. Didnt worry about Protein Powder. Im now on soft foods and eating is so much better. I still dont really enjoy it but there are more choices. Everyday gets better and easier and I can make peace with this new way. I have mad support from my parents and mom made crockpot chicken for xmas dinner and sugar free pudding parfaits with sugar free strawberry wafer Cookies. And an egg/cheese/mushroom casserole for Breakfast. All of it was really good. It can be done!!!! I love being on here. Congrats to all of you!

Well, little over a week down. Still learning what goes down well and what doesn't, though I admit I have tried a few things I probably shouldn't have. But I paid the price for that!

Went to my first post op Doctor appointment, down 10lbs since surgery! Can't wait to see the results once I'm able to start some cardio!

First appointment with my PCP today. Down 50lbs! Feeling great! Having trouble getting my liquids in during the day simply because I get busy or distracted while working and forget. Does anyone know of a timer app that might help?

Everyone says my face looks so different!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
