Anyone else doing their liquid diet right now? I'm on day 3 and the end of the day got super rough for me. I dont think I've ever wanted mcdonalds more in my life lol. I came waaaay to close to cheating, but ultimately talked myself out of it because 1. ) I've done waaaay too much work for the past six months to do anything to ruin or push back my surgery, 2.) My surgeon told me it would get easier after the 3rd or 4th day, and 3.) I've gotta get used to not eating the foods I have enjoyed my entire life and have led me to where i'm at today. I will not be able to eat that stuff for a lonnnng time, so i might as well get used to it. Its really a bummer on the holiday though....i am constantly being offered food everywhere I go, people are wanting to go out for drinks n such. It's a little uncomfortable,I hadnt planned on telling EVERYONE about my surgery but I've found myself with my back against a wall quite a few times.

So anyways, just wanting to hear any advice, support, or just hear from someone else going through the same thing right now that can relate! I'm feeling like the only person in the world having to suffer like this right now lol.

For me it was surely the hardest part of the process. Your doctor is right, the hunger decreases after about the 4th day. The head hunger is still there, though. I drank a lot of Vitamin Water Zero for the electrolytes and Vitamins. It helped with headaches and fatigue. Also, a hot mug of chicken or beef broth was good when I got tired of the sweet stuff and the hot temperature seemed to be somewhat satisfying.

Good luck......You can do it.

Most people that had WLS went through what you are going through, so no, you aren't alone. We survived and so will you. I was on liquids from December 4 till January 8 when I had my surgery, so yes, I understand how hard it can be through the holidays. My motivating factor was to have the safest, complication free surgery and recovery as possible. My surgeon also had a weight loss requirement for me and he flat out would not have performed surgery if I didn't lose enough. That was enough to even get me to start my preop diet 2 days early and I lost 22 pounds instead of the required 12 pounds! But I was also very excited to get started losing. So get excited!!

Quit focusing on the now and concentrate on getting to your ultimate goal. Have fun with what you CAN eat and drink. A good positive attitude goes a long ways towards being successful. The WLS lifestyle is FOREVER and these few beginning weeks are barely a blip on the radar of the big picture. You can do ANYTHING for a few weeks. And like you said, you might as well get used to it.

My surgery is scheduled for Tuesday and I was placed on a 7-day liquid diet. I have cheated on three of the days. My fear is my liver will not have shrunk at all. If I go the next three days without eating, will my liver swhrink fast?

Won't know till your surgeon gets in there. But I Would be totally up front with him with what you have been eating.

And remember, cheating is only hurting yourself. And the more you cheat, the easier it is to cheat next time. Self sabotage is a big problem early on and ultimately leads to an unsuccessful outcome. The mental part of WLS is a hundred times harder than the physical part. You are going to a professional for surgery, you may find it necessary to go to a professional for the psychiatric part, too.

And just for a perspective of what's in store, here is a link to the best advice I've ever read concerning WLS......

It was hard! I had a massive headache for two days from carb withdrawal. And I had been pretty good prior!!

It does get easier. It is worth it in the end. Keep your eyes on the prize!!

My surgery is tomorrow 12/28. I've been on liquids since yesterday. It isn't as hard as I thought it would be. I'm anxious so I'm reading a lot of anything I can get my hands on.
