I would be more worried if you weren't scared, Just take deep breaths and remember you just have to lay there, Dr,s and nurses do all the work, what is your biggest fear? I have had a few surgeries in my life and can walk you through. even the bad stuff that has happen to me, and I m still here .

You will be fine! My pain was no worse than muscle pain from doing situps. Going under is a breeze! One minute you are awake and the next you are in recovery waking up. That is the way it is meant to be. I remember waking up in recovery and asking "what's for lunch?" The nurses looked at me and laughed.

There, there, there now...........it will be alright in a minute.

When they insert the IV needle in the back of your hand, you will feel a little prick. My first ex- husband was a little prick!

For a fact, once they get you placed on the operating table, the anesthesiologist may ask you to do something like counting backward from 100. So here you go......100, 99, 98...........Wake up Rena. Wake up. You're all done and you did really well. We will be taking you to you room soon.

Pain from the surgery was never an issue for me. My sleeve was my 12th operation under anesthetic, with the least pain and easiest recovery. I had four miniscule incisions, and only the biggest one was uncomfortable for a couple of days.

You have multitudes of bariatric brothers and sisters here to encourage you. I am rooting for you and expecting to hear soon that you are on your way to re-inventing yourself. The post-op diet is a mighty inconvenient aspect of this process, but once you get past the first month and back on regular cooked food that tastes like something, you will be surprised at how fast time flies. Hang in there, kiddo.

I scared that it is gonna hurt also afraid of going under

I wasn't scared for one second. I had done my research/homework. I trusted my doctor's and I had followed all my pre-op instructions to the T. I was pretty calm going in. The day of surgery, I got up, said a prayer and just let go.

Going under isn't bad. After you are hooked up to the IV they start the anesthesia and you just sleep. Post-op also wasn't bad for me. I was more sore than in actual pain. Just go slow. The hospital staff is there to help you, so let them.

Being scared is natural. This was my first surgery ever so I had no idea what it would be like.

Turns out, the surgery was the easiest part of the process. One minute you are getting on the table and the next minute you are in recovery.

Just take deep breaths and try to keep yourself occupied until time for the surgery.

Thinking of you. Blake the other posters, I found this process very easy and the pain wasn't bad at all. I came home after one night and only took about three doses of my pain meds. I walked a little stooped over the first day, because my belly hurt, but I felt fantastic by the third and fourth day. Went shopping and everything! They will take good care of you. It's natural to be nervous. We are here for you!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
