yolo1981 2 Posted December 24, 2015 Im 8 days out and before surgery I met a few people who said it really was a breeze and they went back to work after a week. I get tired easily, my Incision sites are sore so I dont sleep well, I haven't even begun excercising and haven't lost much weight, I thought I was strong but guess not
fernandfj 469 Posted December 24, 2015 The first week or two is not easy. Your body is sore, you are weak from getting used to lower calories, and you are uncertain about what will happen. Stick to the program, get in your Protein and Water, and just wait - positive results will come. You are in for a life long marathon, not a sprint, so just take it slow and easy. It will get much, much better!
Fame 53 Posted December 24, 2015 Maybe those people had desk jobs? I couldn't have imagined going to work after only 1 week.. I took 3 weeks off. I felt pretty crappy when I was first sleeved too and it does get better... there is no turning back so the only thing you can do is keeping moving forward anyways. You can do it! jane13 2,256 Posted December 24, 2015 @@yolo1981 - You are still early out. I had a easy recovery and could've gone back to work a few days post-op. I have a physical job but everyone recovers differently. We ALL lose weight DIFFERENTLY - don't compare. its hard, I know, I do it too but early out is really a time to not get wrapped up in what everyone else has done or accomplished. Hydrate and get in as much Protein as possible and move. IT will get better. you got this!
MsCyrus 90 Posted December 24, 2015 All are fabulous responses! I go in on Monday and I will remember all the great encouragement!!
Miss Mac 6,262 Posted December 24, 2015 I had an uncomplicated recovery from my sleeve, but still had to push through the first month until I got on regular cooked foods. I am retired and could not imagine going back to the job I had (supervising housekeepers at a seven building facility - walked all day). I had no energy for the first month and woke up with nausea quite a bit, but did not vomit until I got the flu at six months out. My largest incision was sore for that first month, but nothing I could not handle. The only pain meds I took at home was hydrocone for a couple of days. In the hospital I gained twelve pounds in two days from the IV fluids, so I had to lose that first because I could even think of progress. By the time I did, I hit that dreaded third week stall for over a week. By the time I started losing weight again, I was at the end of my first month. I did not exercise beyond walking for about six weeks. Yesterday I hit my two year surgery anniversary and had just had a follow-up exam. The bariatrician said that I am exactly where I need to be. It took me longer than other folks, but I am healthier and happier than I have been in decades in spite of orthopedic issues. Please don't compare yourself to others. That is a crazy-maker. Because I was able to get a reality check from this forum, I knew that my experience was not going to copy any else's. My progress came in waves with long stalls in-between. The longest was six months. IMHO, you should only expect that by the time you do get to your goal, you will have totally re-invented yourself and be much healthier as a reward. Hugs from Chicago. I wish you good luck and good health.
McButterpants 2,846 Posted December 24, 2015 Don't get down on yourself - we all heal in different ways, it's not a matter of being strong or weak. Ben gentle on your body - you just had major surgery. Take care of your body so it can take care of you. You are going to put it thru a lot in the coming months! As as Miss Mac states above - don't compare yourself to others. Just because someone you talked to or read about on this forum says they lost 20 pounds in the first 5 days, doesn't mean that you will (it also doesn't mean it's true). You're body is unique as is your journey - embrace that. This is the one thing in life that is truly yours. You will have wonderfully fantastic days and you'll have horribly crappy days during this process. Those are yours and yours alone. Hang in there and best of luck! MsCyrus 90 Posted December 24, 2015 I have learned so much from this forum! I didn't know we could gain weight from the surgery itself!
The Candidate 3,215 Posted December 24, 2015 Although I had a very easy recovery with minimal pain, there was no getting around that fatigue. Everyone is different in life, and in recovery, so hang in there, it will definitely get better! And it is so worth it!
ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted December 24, 2015 tired easily, Incision sites - sore - I don't sleep well @@yolo1981 i had a great surgery, speedy recovery, no problems etc PO that's my story, and i'm stickin' to it!!! playing devils advocate - that is not always true "surgery is a breeze, back to work in one week" friend that said so was trying to be nice/optimistic unfortunately things don't always work that way for some i wish people wouldn't say stuff like you will do great with surgery no problems with surgery or after you'll be fine this is not always true, buttttt many/most times things feel great your reactions to surgery are very common, tiredness etc very true that the first week.weeks or so can be difficult after saying all that - on the plus side things "probably" will improve gradually and you will feel back to "normal" loosing your excess weight becoming healthy feeling more confident, self-assured looking pretty darn good too!!! "the only thing we have in common, is that we're all different" please feel better hang in there!!!! hope your situation improves sooner than later good luck kathy
