Traveling- 5 weeks out

Recommended Posts

This is my very first post. I have been reading many of them on here since I was sleeved on 11/18/15. I am 5 weeks out and headed out of town for vacation. As per the doctor's instructions, I am eating eggs, most fish and seafood, and mashed veggies. I am doing very well and have tolerated small amounts of food thus far. While on vacation I am supposed to introduce chicken and raw veggies. Any suggestions for traveling & having to eat out?

@@Wildtreegirl81 - Welcome to the family!

I would order appetizers, share Entrees and ask for a to go box to put in a refrigerator for later. I think I would stick with your current diet until you get back home or if I introduced anything new it would only be a bite or so. traveling and not feeling well, sucks. I have started taking ziplocks, because we eat out a lot.

I traveled to Florida a week after my surgery. I was on total liquids so I got a couple of Protein drinks at the first nutrition store I passed. I did some enchilada Soup at a Chili's and the restaurant in the hotel I stayed in served French Onion Soup. We ate dinner at a BJ's Brewhouse and I just had some mashed potatoes (they were not on my plan but there wasn't a whole lot there that I could have)

One thing I did when I was in the restaurants was tell my waitress that I had just had bariatric surgery so they would understand when I only ate a few bites of things. The waitress at the hotel really went out of her way to get me something that was on my plan which I truly appreciated. The first bowl of soup she brought me had a lot of cheese and croutons in it, she sent it back without me even saying anything and told the kitchen I needed more of the broth and leave the croutons out.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
