SO Tired of Protein Drinks!

Recommended Posts

I am three weeks out and have to say, i don't know how many more Protein drinks/shakes I can handle. I am SO tired of them! I did start pureed foods today and had four bites of a scrambled egg this morning, which was DELICIOUS. But I have to still get in two Protein shakes a day for two more weeks...ugh, ugh, ugh. I'm SO tired of them.

What foods give us the most Protein? I'm not there yet so haven't researched. meat? cheese? Cottage cheese? the thing is, we can't eat that much of them to rack up the grams of protein like a Protein shake, right?

Sigh. Just venting.....

You might want to try adding a splash of sugar-free Torani Syrup to your shake if it's allowed. I went a little nuts and bought eight different flavors but now I'm quick to add a little almond, peppermint, raspberry, etc to "spice" up my shakes.

I hear ya sis! I have to get a lot of my Protein from Protein powder. I add unflavored to Soups, oatmeal, cream of wheat. I add vanilla to coffee. I got so tired of Protein shakes too. I had ready to drink ones but my doc told me he had a lot of patients with a lot of issues with them. When I have them now, I make my own with fruit, Protein Powder, ice, and a little honey :) I do what I have to to get my protein in.

Hang in there!!!

Someone here had mentioned Lifefair milk which had 13g of Protein per cup. it's more expensive but I tried it. I liked it. So maybe I'll use that. I already eat greek yogurt (but 1/4 c has only 4 grams of protein). As I can eat more, i'll be able to get more protein in, other than the drinks or shakes. I do have SF caramel and gingerbread flavoring, and add protein to my carnation instant breakfast powder, and ice; so i do make my own shakes already. Still so tired of them. I did it for ten days prior to surgery too, so 34 days now....

In the last couple of weeks I discovered adding a scoop of Protein powder to plain greek yogurt. 1/2 cup has 12 grams protein and then whatever amount your protein powder has. I love it and have a few different varieties that I make and have it everyday for lunch!

I want to try Greek yogurt. How is it different than regular yogurt? Are there sugar free flavored types I can try with adding my own unflavored Protein powder? Thanks for any input.

Greek yogurt has more protein than regular yogurt. I like Dannon Light & Fit Greek. Just read labels.

Google best Greek yogurt for weight loss. There's a website, I think "eat this" or something. It compares Greek yogurt and tells you which ones to choose and which to avoid. I've never come across a flavored Greek yogurt that doesn't have a very high sugar content.

I'm planning to try doing the plain Greek and adding Protein powder to add some flavor and get in more protein.

Just wanted to mention not all Greek yogurts are made the same so very important to read the labels.

I agree with @innersurfergirl I add some vanilla or unflavored Protein to it which makes it about 20 g of protein.

I hate yogurt but really like the Dannon Light & Fit Greek that comes in cherry chocolate, or raspberry chocolate. I can almost pretend its cheesecake. Only 80 calories and 12 grams of Protein. Yum-o!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
