Wow, that would be cool if I got my first fill and was not hungry. Can't even imagine that!

I think you have a magic wand hidden somewhere... LOL~

The Dr. told me, that eventually that is the goal of the band, to help control not just portion, but the actual hunger itself. Unfortunately the nerves they need to trigger, are not highlighted in red on the outside of your stomach!

Just as we are all built differently on the outside, we all have similar differences on the inside. He said where some people carry weight in the stomach, and others in the hips---the stomach itself can be stretched into (or out of!!!) different shapes too. So while they have a general idea of where the nerves are "supposed" to be....hitting them is somewhat of a crap shoot!

Which is why you get such differing stories on here. Some people get instant relief from the hunger---apparantly the band is in immediate contact. Others like me, as soon as the fill begins contracting the stoma area, it puts pressure onto the nerves...others who need more fills to make contact, and yet others, who never trigger the nerves, and still lose weight simply by restriction of portions.

He went on to say that those who have early relief from hunger are usually those who have quicker relief of blood sugar issues as well---since the 2 seem to be related.

I have attended several of his seminars, and different questions are always ask---I feel fortunate to have heard the answers to some I would have never known to ask.

If there were a magic wand hid out.....these wrinkles, and sags, and stubborn last pounds would all be gone!!! Oh how I wish for a magic wand!!!

Not being hungry after the first fill. Now that would be totally amazing.

I think there are different types of hunger. There is hunger from having an empty stomach...mormal hunger. There is hunger from needing certain nutrients...the kind of hunger that gives me food cravings. And the is mouth hunger...the kind that makes us gain weight because it is about the taste and texture food has, and how it mkes us feel emotionally. The band will help deal with the first, watching diet and taking Vitamins helps with the second, I think but we are on our own with the third.

I'm still on the liquid diet after surgery (6 days) and I'm feeling hunger for the first time in a long time. Its good that I now recognize it. I was suprised to feel it so soon after surgery though. And I'm at least a month away from my first fill. I don't go back to the dr. until 27th so trying to hang in there til then. I was prepared emotionally and mentally for most everything else but the hunger growls! The gum has helped even though I'm not a big gum chewer. It also suprised me how quick the hunger comes on. Before I knew I was getting hungry and had time to get something before I'm starving. Now I'm not hungry until wam I'm starving and my stomach is growling loud!!

Yogurt is just like liquid. I used to mix my Protein powder into it. It helped a lot but it's all about the fill now. My doc said I would get really really hungry about 2 weeks from my first fill. Man, I hate it when he is right! hahaha~

Still have manged to kill off 40 lbs and no fill yet. Looks like it might be even easier--- soon.

I had mine last week and I was ravenously hungry on day 2 and 3 of the liquid diet. Then miraculously, I stopped getting as hungry (maybe my stomach shrank?) until yesterday when I moved on to mushies. Now the hunger's back but I try to curb it with Protein. Even just drinking a glass of skim milk helps. My band's not filled at all and won't be until June 16 so hopefully I can make it through.

Angermom - Wow! 40 pound is great! If I could do that I'd be happy!

I do seem to be less hungry yesterday and today than I was day 2 and 3! But my dr. says liquids until 1st appointment which works out to be 15 days!!! It really hard trying to add variety. The yogurt idea is great. I'm going to try adding strawberry Protein to vanilla yogurt for lunch.

Thanks! I got on the scale and hit 200 today. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. I can see it now -- not just hope for it. I won't be embarrassed at my daughter's high school graduation on next Thursday. (I work for there and will see everyone for the first time since Feb.) I wanted to make her proud of her mom.

For some reason my doc only does fills one day per month. So, I will get my fill way later than most people. Until then, let the tummy rumbles continue...

Goodness - That's great. I can only dream of being 200 right now. I've lost 20 so far, so I'm encouraged. I think its great you'll look good at graduation! I bet your daughter's proud of all your hard work too. Congratulations on by -- daughter's graduation and weight loss! Thanks for the encouragement! It is amazing. I think I used to be scared of feeling hungry or my stomach making noises. Now I know it means my body is working the way its supposed to. So I'm with you - tummy rumbles and all!

At first u are hungry and your stomach is really giving it too you lol. But after a couple of weeks you still hear your stomach telling you off. But you don’t feel that (OMG im so hungry!!) kind of thing. It becomes mind over matter . Believe me. Just today I was in the steam room and my stomach was talking up a STORM...but I didn’t feel that awful hunger and when my stomach starts to tell me off. I just take a couple sips of my Protein Shake and im good until my next meal. I’m two months post op had 2 fills and I am down 32lb. Hope this helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
