txsnurse 1 Posted December 22, 2015 Anyone use it for their heartburn reflux issues? I've been reading up on low stomach acid issues and I'm intrigued. Yes, I'll call and ask the NP but I'm guessing they probably aren't going to know either.
JamieLogical 8,710 Posted December 22, 2015 I didn't know what this was, so I looked it up. From the 5 seconds of research I did, it seems like this is an acid PRODUCER not an acid REDUCER, so I don't get how it could potentially help with heartburn and reflux? txsnurse 1 Posted December 22, 2015 A lot of info states that low acid causes heartburn/reflux and that taking Betaine hcl with pepsin resolves the problem.
JamieLogical 8,710 Posted December 22, 2015 A lot of info states that low acid causes heartburn/reflux and that taking Betaine hcl with pepsin resolves the problem. I'm not certain that would be the case with sleeve patients though. Our main problem is too much acid production, since we are producing the same amount of acid we used to with only 15-20% of our stomach left to contain it, thus the need for PPIs. denisa 5 Posted January 2, 2016 When eating hard to digest foods, for example foods rich in fat and sugar, sometimes taking ppis makes digestion difficult. Before the sleeve some years ago I was prescribed omprazole and found that it made things worse. For me identifying the trigger foods for my heartburn was the answer. I also found that taking dogestive enzymes with difficult foods helped. The enzymses contained betaine hcl among others.
Kindle 8,667 Posted January 2, 2016 A lot of people find relief with papaya and papaya extract. (But don't take if you're pregnant)
