Gall bladder taken out after sleeve?!?!?

Recommended Posts

I had an ultrasound on my right side on Friday and they found out that my gall bladder is very full of usually large gall stones.

Had my sleeve done June 15, down 80 lbs but it hurts to exercise because of this.

Anyone else have their gall bladder out after sleeve surgery. I have a large pain threshold but I am very nervous as I have always just taken Advil after surgeries and never the pain meds they give out. Any advise on there on this subject?

I had my gallbladder removed 8 months after my VSG. It was incredibly easy. Surgery was at 8:00 am I was discharged at 12:30 and home by 1:15. I was out of work 2 days and on an airplane for a business trip the 6th day after surgery. Even though they gave me pain meds for home I only took 1 pill the first night to sleep. I didn't even need Tylenol after the first day. I was a bit more tired for a few days after the surgery but my surgeon promised me it would be super easy and it was. Good luck!!

It's a possible consequence. All you can do is drink lots of Water and pray for the best. Good luck.

I had to have my gallbladder removed, a hiatal hernia repair and the sleeve all done at the same time. I went home next day and only had to take pain meds that first night home. I had a gallstone that they discovered in pre op tests and since developing gallstones is sometimes a side effect of sleeve surgery they felt it best to do all 3 surgeries at the same time. The only side effect I had from the gall bladder removal was on days 3 and 4 post op where I had sudden bouts of diarrhea. Thankfully it was only those two days. Hope everything goes well for you.

Yes I think that doctors need to say something about the possibility of having to have your gall bladder removed. My surgeon never mentioned this and it would have been something that I would have liked to have known.

I am 6 months out from surgery. So it must be around the 5-9 month mark where this happens.

I had mine removed before surgery. Highly recommend you have it taken out before you find yourself in an emergency situation. I knew I had stones, but thought I would take my chances and try home remedies that I read about online to get rid of them. They didn't work...ended up with pancreatitis because a stone got lodged in pancreatic duct and spent 5 days in hospital for something that would have normally been a short stay. Also, I can say that it can be highly painful if the stones get stuck. Thought I was having a heart attack, severe chest pains, sweating, nausea... It's definitely no fun.

Well just got back from the surgeon, surgery is set for Tuesday, dec 29. He said that it was one of the largest stones he has ever seen. Hopefully it goes as smooth as we talked about today, which is arriving 11am for 12 surgery, recovery 12:45-1:30 and home by 4pm, said I could do as much activity as I can tolerate after surgery.

I had my surgery at noon today. Not sick with this one like the sleeve. They gave me so much anti-nauseous meds and no morphine. I really think I got so sick last time from the morphine, so I kept telling them that and they just added it to my allergy list.

The pain is a lot like the sleeve, just sore when getting up from laying down and sitting down getting up. I go back in a week and hopefully he releases me to go back to the gym. I am really looking forward to working out for longer than 20 -30 mins without pain. I will update if anything changes or in a week when I go back for my check up.

BTW-I had one very large manderian orange sized stone with lots of little ones, so my gallbladder was larger than normal. I had my sleeve preformed on June 15, 2015 and am down 80 lbs.

@@grandmaofone Holy moly that was one BIG stone!! I will only be off 2 days plus the weekend (4 days total) so let me know how you are feeling day to day. Its so early in the year, I don't want to use my vacation. And to take FMLA I have to use up a week of vacation first. Really don't want to do that. Hoping this is a quick recovery for us both!

Today I am just sore, one of the cotton dressing got caught on my sports bra and came off, the incision looks about as big as the four smaller sleeve ones. It is just sore when you are getting up or down, just about like the sleeve. I did get up and go see my daycare kiddos today for awhile. I took one pain pill yesterday and one today, that's it. I am planning on doing everything by myself tomorrow. My two teenaged daughters watched my four daycare kiddos today.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
