TMI and a little gross

Recommended Posts

So... 4 months out yesterday. Down almost 60lbs and honestly love life right now. Things are going pretty good except for one thing. Every single time I eat and it doesn't matter what I eat I have diarrhea. This has been going on for about 2-3 weeks now and it drives me a little crazy. It doesn't hurt and it doesn't last all day it's just when I eat about 10 minutes later I have to rush to the bathroom and go. It's typically all liquid and sometimes foamy.

Any one else have this issue? I heard that Constipation was common but I have never suffered from that problem. If this is the new normal I can certainly live with it it's not horrible but just wondering if anyone else deals with it.

@@kranky813 - what exactly are you eating? You say it happens every time.

What are you drinking?

What have you changed in your diet within the last 2-3 weeks??? That would be my first thing to look and see if I am developing a problem with a particular type of food. Dairy? Slider food? artificial sweetener?

It's normal. And then your will begin to have Constipation after that has ended. It's just the nature of the game.

Diarrhea is inconvenient. Constipation is like passing a watermelon through a straw.

The #1 thing that gives me the most grief with bowel function is sugar or sweeteners. Miss Tummy does not like them and certainly speaks up about it. I agree, look for changes in your food, your medications, and your routine.

@@jane13 Honestly it's been pretty normal. So chicken, veggies, beef, flat bread occasionally. I have been sticking to plan with eating Protein first then veggies then carbs if I have room. Breakfast every day is a light nonfat greek yogurt with blueberries or peaches.

Drinking has been Water Water and more water. I do have a cup of Decaf coffee in the morning on my way into work and add a little sugar free Creamer to it. But other then that it's just water.

@kranky813 - hmmm

change your brand of yogurt (sweeteners?) or Creamer?

if I eat/drink too much artificial sweetener that happens to me, sometimes. Not all the time.

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

      I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
