Gastric bypass revision. Am I the only one?

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm new, this is my first post. I had gastric bypass surgery in 2005. I lost about 100 lbs and have since gained it back plus a couple extra. Last year I made the decision to have a revision surgery. I have been having the hardest time finding people who have had revision to their gastric bypass surgery. I have questions and can't find answers. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

Although I have seen a lot of post on this board from RNY gastric bypass patients and patients that have revisions from one surgery (such as lap band) to RNY, I haven't seen many from RNY to RNY revisions. There may be others in the same boat as you but they don't seem to gravetate to this board.

On the other hand, if we can be of any help, please ask specific questions and we might be able to help. There are two phases to the process. The "Weight-Loss" phase and the "Maintenance" phase. It looks like you did well in the "Weight-Loss" phase but not so well in the "Maintenance" phase. It seems like the guidance given by the surgeons work very well in the "Weight Loss" phase but it seems to come to an end as you transition into the "Maintenance" phase.

It'd be helpful if you outlined what type of revision are you having, along with what tests were run that concluded that you needed a revision? And how has your diet been? Did you main a Protein forward diet, not drink with meals, etc?

I am one year post revision. It is much different then the previous one which did not come with support or education. I'm in Alberta Canada and I had a whole team assess me for about 6 months before they determined that a revision was warranted and to get me into a frame of mind that would set me up for success this time. It has been wonderful. I haven't lost as fast as I did the first time but I know that this time I have been able to make the necessary changes and to sustain those changes for the rest of my life. The big difference for me was in working with a psychologist who helped me to understand why this time would be different and successful. I'm now down to a size 16 from size 24 and continue to lose at least 1 pound per week. Doesn't sound like much but I can be patient and ensure that the lose I"m experiencing is sustainable and part of my new normal.

Oh wow Janice that is wonderful and so refreshing to hear! I started my process for revision more than a year ago. Right now I'm just waiting for my surgery to be approved. Would you mind if I emailed you a couple of questions???

Hi ldramafree35

I had a ventricle hernia and gastric bypass revision on 9/11/15. I had my original gastro bypass on2/15/90. The program followed me for a year. I lost 130 lbs. My problems began by getting pregnant 18 months after surgery. I had 2 children 14 months apart. I managed to keep the weight off for about 10 years. I had major problems with my gallbladder, it was removed. I had an umbilical hernia and 2 c-sections in 6 years.

I had my revision done at MassGeneral. I feel so blessed to be given this second chance. My surgeon was Janey Pratt. My surgery weight was 345lbs. My current weight is 270. The surgery they are doing now is so different than what I had before.

I am so happy about the support there is. I am also much more educated about the high Protein low fat very low carb.

I would be happy to answer any question you might have. Be very cautious about using the word diet. We are not dieting we are eating and living. When it becomes a diet you will certainly fail. Make small changes and make changes that you can reasonable see yourself sustaining forever. So if you can't see yourself ever having a piece of bread the don't eliminate bread how ever how anout replace bread sometimes like using thick tomatoe slice for a half egg Benedict. Or wrap you pickles a in sliced turkey to eat. I use lettuce to fill just like a sandwich and most restuantd will give you a lettuce bun if you order a burger. And once in awhile have a slice of bread. That's sustainable life.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
