I am SOOO nervous about losing my hair. I am getting married in october and i dont want to lose enough hair where i can't do an updo yah no? so i'm curious. There's nothing you can do to stop it. However, it's not like you are going to be bald or anything. It's just shedding. You may notice more hair in your hands when you Shampoo. It normally begins around month 3 or 4 after surgery. When your weight stabilizes at your new goal weight then it will begin to grow back.

I've noticed my hair shedding but not a single person has ever commented to me that they'e noticed it. So I don't think you should worry about it. You might want to cut your hair shorter in the meantime. It's really no big deal.

Make sure to take your Vitamins, include Biotin if not already in your regular bari Vitamin, and lots of collagen (eating sugar free Jello means you're also getting some collagen). That, plus getting your Protein in means you're less likely to experience any extreme hair loss.

It is pretty unlikely anyone but you will really notice in any case.

Two years out here…I'll tell you my story:

I lost a lot of hair 3 months out - like 30% of my hair. I'm not telling you this to scare you. My doc said, "Anything you lose due to the surgery will grow back." she was right, it did. She OK'd me to take folic acid and Biotin. I also used a product called Topik (it really does work like the videos show - it's a little expensive, but one bottle lasts me about 9 months) - it's great for hiding.

Most of my loss was in the front and on the sides.

Now, at two years out, I go thru times where I lose, it's not as prevalent as the first time, but it grows back very quickly. My stylist believes that my hair is thicker than before surgery.

After all of the anxiety and after all the Hair loss, was it worth it? YES!!!!!!

i am 5 months post op today. yup, it's gonna' fall out. thin, really. i let my hair grow to hide Hair loss i knew was coming, but on me it aged me. so i embraced the process, cut my hair short, and try to meet my nutrition goals every day. my hair has always been my one vanity. as a big man it was the one thing i could easily change and control. now that i have lost 150 lbs, almost half of my goal, somehow it doesn't seem quite as important. and when i reach my goal and my weight is stable, it will grow back!

In the almost 2 years I've been on this forum, I've seen maybe 2 or 3 people who have actually resorted to hair peices for their loss. The rest of the hundreds of people only notice the loss themselves, it's so minimal.

You're not going to stop it completely, but take some of the advice above to at least minimize it a little.

I'd rather have thinner hair than be 95 pounds fatter any day.

According to my doc, it's all about the Protein so I make sure I get protein in daily.

I ate protein till the cows came home and still had Hair loss. Nothing will stop it. It's just a normal part of the process for 98% of us unfortunately.

It's just recently happened to me. I started losing my hair about 2 weeks ago and like everyone says I am 4 months out. I freak out about it because like DavidOso said it's my one vanity. I literally sat in the tub and cried this weekend because as I washed my hair I pulled so much out.

Now on the flip side I have a TON of hair. No one but me notices and honestly I don't even notice it unless I am pulling it out :) My hair still looks and feels just fine :)

You are going to be fine @@kdelrosso

You are going into the new year losing your weight aggressively.

You have between now and October to lose hard and stabilize. Ask your surgeon and regular doctors about possible hair products that may help........take in your Vitamins, Protein and other known good things.

Do your part and simply let things run their course.

I truly think you'll be fine.

I met my Protein goals pretty early out and pushed hard to get to 100 grams a day (my NUT's recommendation) as quickly as I possibly could. I was also religious about taking my Vitamins. Still, I lost a fair amount of hair beginning at about 3.5 months post op. The heavy loss only lasted about a month and a half and I started to see new growth again immediately. I don't think anyone besides me would have noticed my hair looking any thinner. My husband noticed only because of the MASSIVE amount of hair all over the bathroom. However, it was definitely noticeable when all the baby hairs started growing in and sticking up all over the place!

I am four months post op and I know it is part of the journey. It hasn't started yet, but I expect it any day now. I have shorter, very thin/fine hair so this should be interesting.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
