7 more days and I will be sleeved! Eeekkk!

Recommended Posts

I went to eat dinner with the family after church for my son's birthday and they seated us in the dreaded booth! I squeezed myself in there the best way I could and just sat there thinking that much longer this won't be an issue :). I might as well go ahead and share my most modifying moment of being obese while I'm at it. We went to an amusement park and I got on the ride. I kid you not, I had 1 of the workers in the front coaching me to "suck it in" while 2 other workers was in the back holding on to the seat as support. I was so embarrassed and not only that but I was uncomfortable the whole time the ride was going from not being able to breath and having my mid section stuffed in that ride. I won't know how to act when I am able to get in a ride and not worry about embarrassing myself or my family. Those are just a couple of NSV's I'm looking forward to!! Not sure what compelled me to share this but maybe some of you can relate...

I can certainly relate.

You are going to be rewarded in so many ways......really soon, too.

The pre & post op liquid diet was that hardest part for me.......and it wasn't even hard. 30 grams of Protein from Premier Protein ready mixed shakes went down easy and tasted great to m. I had zero hunger post-op and that trend continues.

I'm 9 weeks out from my surgery and things are really, really easy. I kid you not. This is an easy life to lead.....eating lean cuts of tasty Proteins.

For example....at work, I keep pouches of tuna and Quest bars in my desk. I also go the cafeteria and hit the salad bar for a small side salad (I load it with stuff other than lettuce). At Breakfast at work I'll sometimes have an omelette (but only finish 1/3 of it at most).

This weekend I fired up my grill and had a lot of fun cooking for my family. Enjoyed all the flavors, too. Still lost at a good rate all weekend.

Life after the sleeve has been a breeze.

Also tried on some clothes that I'd bought before my surgery......thinking I'd be able to wear them by Summer..............THEY FIT !!!!

This is after just 9 short weeks. I can't even imagine how good it'll feel after a year......two years.......ten years.........

You are going to love it and be very happy with your decision. Don't let the liquid diet throw you off. Don't eat the garbage that many folks eat during the pureed stage......don't bring the junk food back. Push through those few weeks and then PROFIT.

Happy for you.

It will get really, really easy.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
